BIG thanks to my friend Greg (3-48's) for hooking me up with this awesome PTO package!!!! Greg went out of his way to find me a nice straight driveshaft, a companion flange for the rear gearbox and replaced the bearings in the engagement shifter and included the gasket.... On his travels through CT, he even stopped-by my home to deliver!! I can't thank you enough Sir, I'm really happy to own this piece of Willys history. I greatly appreciate all you did to make this happen for me .

A couple interesting findings during clean-up of PTO gearbox.
First off, it's in really nice, what appears to be original shape. The flat head bolts are not all buggered-up like someone was been in there. Turns smooth and is super tight! (Thank you again Greg ) The bolts are marked with what looks like Rockford S.P. CO 'A' Small cork plug on top of breather Mounting tab on casting - I image this would be broken on many units? Not sure what this tag represents? 3-18 looks like? |

I hope you all had a nice holiday.... I was able to sneak a couple hours in on Saturday.... Finished inspecting the gearbox, new fluid and mounting. I tried to use some old bolts to match the look of the existing... I did not get the driveshaft installed yet, but made good progress Have some clearance issues under the jeep with previously installed equipment and possibly the exhaust mounting...

Found this old test stand with super heavy base in the scrap bin... Perfect for my Beugler pen, thank you to 'squidtone' for the inspiration... I will be purchasing some nice 1 shot paint today :)

I tried the same exact setup last week, but with a paint pen instead of a Beugler pen. I found out that my wheel was not spinning true because the pen went from moderate pressure to a lot of pressure to no pressure in a single revolution.
Switched to the bucket method and will figure out whats wrong with my hub another day. Either method will work if you take your time and make a practice run or two (with a spare wheel or tape over the area to be striped) Good luck!

Almost seems like the rim needs to be tweeked, no? G- I'll be following to see how it works for you (to get in before the price per wheel goes up )

Thanks for the feedback Mark! I'm thinking of some type of spring mechanism to keep pressure on the pen.... I may just be able to place pressure on pen by hand? I liked your idea of using tape for some test runs.
Hey Greg! I got the engagement lever installed too.... I'm just waiting on some nice weather to install the driveshaft. I think it looks so cool! I took jpets idea and made a shift boot from an old leather glove, I will have to snap a pic.... Hi MB - I was thinking once I get some experience with the striper, I could do other peoples wheels too... I could bring it to shows and things like that... I have this really nice light aluminum floor jack and I would just need a tool box with all different color 1 shot paints BTW - The $$ for friends would be free

Yay! I just got back from a trip to see you are trying to pinstripe your wheels. Rig looks real good. I was lucky that i had a linear stage with a spring to keep the "pen" against the wheel even with the "peaks and valleys". Most folks won't have access to this sort of thing. I was thinking that maybe a pivot could keep the arm stable; the pivot would provide one degree of freedom to allow the beugler pen to follow the wheel's inevitable highs and lows while the wheel goes around. Gravity or light hand pressure would keep the pen against the wheel

Hi Dave! Thanks for the feedback!! I remembered seeing your video on Mark W's thread You inspired me
So after some scrounging around today and looking for anything with a spring, I found an old broken dial indicator. I think if I can somehow attach my Beugler pen to this, It will have the perfect amount of pressure? We shall see Ordered my paint, went with black....
