Thanks, not running yet. I really hope I actually did find the trouble. Still a little shell shocked after working on motors for 50+ years and now at age 76 I do this. It is super frustrating to get old. You don't want to be mixed up or whatever. You hate mistakes.

Oldpappy has opted out again in a PM to me. He can't stand someone calling him out for being nasty. Sometimes these old "gurus" think they are beyond reproach. WRONG. You can read what I said about piling on , kicking when down, talking down to me. Telling me red color has a "tone". You all know I'm right but some are afraid of him. If he is your friend, that's great, stick with that. I have NEVER attacked anyone on here. Just defended against attacks on me. He thinks refusing to help me is a big deal. He keeps pretending I've been mean. Pretending I have not listened to him. I don't know how many times I have thanked him and everyone else. I've been a member 4 years longer than he has. He will NOT STOP attacking me, ridiculing me, insulting me. Read the entire thread and then cast your stones.

Well, since you brought it up, I'll post the PM I sent you just to let others see just how "nasty" I have been with you. I colored it blue to cool down the flames. You brought up how old you are as if that explains things. I am no pup myself, but age does not always mean maturity, and I no longer have patience to deal with someone whose story doesn't add up.
Getting old isn't for sissies, but your reactions to people, including me, who have been trying to help you with your problem are not conducive to getting more help. That is why I opted out the first time.
It is why I am opting out again. I sent this privately, so as not to cause another combative response from you on the discussion thread, but that is how you come across to me, and I will not offer any more help unless I see something that changes my mind. If you can't play nice then just go away...people have tried to help but apparently you really don't want help. Old Pappy has helped scores of fellow jeep owners on this forum as evidenced by the number of posts he has posted. You may have been on here four years longer than him but the number of posts you have doesn't come close to his. This whole thread needs to go away, because it is an embarrassment... |

i agree with SE Kansas.
your years being a forum member do not give you the right to be the way you are coming across. most of your postings are unintelligible. these guys, old pappy especially, are trying to help you even against your lack of desire to follow their suggestions. there was exactly no attacks, ridicule, or insults made toward you. grow up or go away. and as for defending old pappy, he needs no defense. he has done no wrong, actually the opposite. and yes, good people stick by their friends because they too are good people. or they would not be friends.

I know I can be a bit of a cranky old curmudgeon, and if I have frightened anyone, or come across as being mean and nasty, I apologize for that.

Dang guys, I never meant to start a flame war. My goal is to help folks as much as I can. However, this time I said what I thought instead of biting my tongue & moving on. My frustration level was very high that day & I let it come through in my post. For that, I apologize. I am a friend of Old Pappy, at least I hope he thinks I am. He is a large asset to our community & I appreciate his input. If we ever have issues, I will PM him & we will have a conversation in privet to iron things out. Just like it is done in real life. There is no need for infighting like this. We all enjoy our Jeeps & that should be enough for us to be able to get along with each other. As far as age goes, I am 65ish & my 14 YO granddaughter is teaching me how to post pictures. Yes, it is something that should have been learned long ago. Her age being less then mine does not mean I can not learn from her. I have been wrenching on equipment since I was 10. I have overhauled more engines than most folks work on in their lifetimes. At engine overhauls, I consider myself fairly good. At paint & body work, I am worse that a newbie. We each have our strong suits. My neighbor down the road is 93, he is a nuclear physicist. He built & maintained nuclear power plants, I overhaul his engines for him. Another neighbor, 85 was/is a geologist for the USGS. He has me help him with his antique & classic rigs. These man are experts in their fields. When & if I need their help I know that they will gladly help out. On this forum, we also should help each other out where we can. I do not think that this whole thread needs to go away. There are engine related things that can be learned from it. I hope that in the end, we can also learn things about how to work together from it. IMHO, This thread should stay. BTW, I do not look at videos that have no introduction with them. Some videos I have no interest in ever having on my computer, porn comes to mind, as does baby shark.

like this are not reading the entire thread and are making up things
about me that are not true. Show me the evidence of this other than
defending myself. Where is the blind hatred coming from? This must be
what a kangaroo court is. Pretty sickening. Oldpappy is the only one who
has genuinely apologized. I took his advice as far as I could. I answered his questions. Listed all the ways i tested as he asked me to
do. I thanked everyone all along. When you are making mistake in finding
timing, you don't know it. You keep explaining that everything you do
seems right. That is NOT ignoring advice or coming across as refusing
anything. It's struggling to keep trying and explaining. To repeat what I
said....... I WAS WRONG. YOU GUYS WERE RIGHT. IT WAS TIMING. IT WAS MY
FAILURE TO FIND IT. Not a failure to follow advice, not a failure to
try, not refusing to listen. Not disrespecting anyone. I did not ignore anyone. Why do you think I went to the agonizing dangerous effort to pull the head? I knew I was missing something and after a long time, being told it was timing, I knew I wasn't going to catch it so I moved forward to observe the operation and condition of valves and pistons. Seems an odd thing to do to me also, but it showed me my mistakes. I was in a mode
of: all my efforts kept showing the same result. It's all there in the
thread. I thought it was over when I found it and said you all were right
and gave my umpteenth thank you. Then some pile on started for no
reason. Only one member said glad you found it and so on. He is the one
who asked a question I thought would be called hijack on here like it is
everywhere else and explained what that can do. I was told it's OK on
here. I said I didn't know that. He and I had "made up" about it. He gave a very kind reply to me. He was
actually disrespected by another members remarks, which I pointed out.
That was ignored. Someone with integrity needs to examine how members
are reacting here. Telling people to "grow the F up or go away". Is this
the quality of members? No actual evidence of anything? Just tough bar
room talk? I will not yield to bullys.
It's true, it embarrassing for all who have attacked me for defending myself. For anyone who says I ignored advice or "came across" as ?????? I understand why some want to destroy the evidence here. Edited by SeeJayTwo - 29 May 2023 at 6:10pm |

You are right! I reread the thread and did find someone being nasty.
This was your response to a PM I sent you, which, whether you believe it or not, was also an attempt to help you by pointing out your combative responses were not conducive to getting help. I did it as a PM to avoid embarrassing you or provoking another combative response. You might not know how to fix a Jeep engine, but you fixed that. Edited by Oldpappy - 29 May 2023 at 6:32pm |
