641087 is your typical hear driven cam 2A-early 3A Engine, what’s the S/N stamped behind the water pump ?

As Lee mentioned, the motor number is behind the waterpump, on the top of the block. It should look something like this.

Welcome Chip ... just a quick pile on. The number you listed is the casting number. The 641087 is specific to the version of the block, L for L134(?), the rest is rumored to identify the foundry (W4 for Wilson #4?) and the balance is metal composition(?). Lots of discussion, but I personally don't recall reading anything definitive. It really does little to identify an individual engine beyond general jeep models (or even Kaiser automobiles). The serial number at the waterpump is an individual identifier, but even still can't be tracked back to an individual jeep, we just don't have those records if they ever existed. Best bet is the database here on the 2apage to narrow down a range of matches...

I have been unofficially monitoring the Wilson Foundry number for patterns. Although there are anomalies, the earlier engines tend to have a smaller "W" number. The later engines tend to have larger "W" numbers.
I'm not sure what this says about the manufacturing process.
