Ah, but that's my job here ya know!!

TongueI just read Stephen King's book "Cell" (it's basically about an end of the world scenario caused by cell phones) there was one little girl in there that kept bringing up to the main character "something her Dad used to tell her"......"to assume makes an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'" LOLLOL

I guess the story was still fresh in my mind....no harm intended.Wink

Art's 48 (48CJ2A)is right in this s/n range... thought we had a s/n database but can't find it.

PS I rechecked my numbers, the body number is in fact higher than the s/n, the jeep has been in the family since new.

Just to throw this in the mix.
I believe this is the source for the production numbers that everyone talks about.

Serial number database? Sounds like a good project, any web programmers want to volunteer?

I have a Sales Bulletin posted on my web-site that refers to that date but there isn't enough info to be sure of the date change.  http://www.cj3a.info/lit/dealer/deal1.jpg
The serial number change point is spelled out, 219589. This is different than the Norton Young serial number of 222582.

  • w/out assumption it would be "sometime between January 1 and October, 31"

Wouldn't that be "sometime between November 1 and October, 31"??Confused

Bob:

Excellent!  That bulletin supports the info I was given, even referencing the Oct. 4 change date.  So now we have straight it from the horses mouth.

The other lists of production dates have never included documentation to confirm the numbers, so at this time I'd have to believe Oct. 4 & 219589 are most correct.

Quote Wouldn't that be "sometime between November 1 and October, 31"??
Up until '48, title year coincided w/calendar year, so the 1st '48 would have been on or after Jan. 1, '48.  From '48 forward, title year coincided w/accounting year.

Sean
