I actually registered here just to keep tabs on this as it looks like a fun one. I would be trailering in from 4 hours away. Gonna see if everything else will line up. Being unimproved roads how long of a trek is it looking like? Will there be much or any asphalt driving at all?

Last year we went about 9 miles on dirt roads and probably 5 miles on asphalt (6 hours).  These are county roads, so they are generally in "drivable" condition.  There are a few roads that are way beyond anything a modern SUV would /should be taken on as they are just creeks or pipeline roads.  There is one particular hill that we had to winch everyone up two years ago (it can be like a Gatekeeper you might find out West).  But almost everything can be driven or driven around (if it is dry).  The hill on Albright Road also can be a challenge.

The issue is always how wet it has been or if it is raining.  Dry creeks can become totally impassable, hilly clay roads can become impossible to climb and low spots can become long ponds.  Like with everything else we will call the ball once we are in the clay in 4-wheel low.  Putting wheels on Albright Hill will tell us 90% of what we can expect.

We will probably have two  or three groups this year.

For the non offroad types:
There are plenty of hard surface, gravel roads in the Tar Hollow State Park for people with Jeeps they don't want anything more than a gravel road to drive on.  It is pretty country and the leaves should be beautiful this year as it has been dry.

Hope this helps.

Stev

Last year was dry and an absolutely wonderful drive in the backcountry.

Only 3 weeks to go!  Just wondering what every one's plans are as far as just coming for the day or camping.  Looks like my wife is not going to try it untill I've had a chance to check everyting out first.  Hoping to have her with me next year maybe with an enclosed trailer (jeep hauler/camper similar to the Wadddles - nice job John!).  Anyhoo, I'm planning to arrive Friday and camp at the State Park.  I may stay Saturday night too if other Jeep folks are around.  My brother Ron will be driving from Kent Saturday morning. We are both scrambling to have our Jeeps ready.  I'm working on making a bikini top in case of rain.
I heard back from TN21 - he won't be able to make it due to his work's manditory 2 week quarantine if he leaves the state.  I'll miss wheeling with you Todd!

James and I will be camping for sure Saturday Night and will be doing a bit of wheeling on Sunday. I may camp Friday night as well. We’ll be camping in one of the spots around the parking lot below the dam.

Update:

I booked camp site 87 for Friday and Saturday nights, it’s along the dam side of the lake where we’ll be meeting in the morning. If your still on the fence about camping here’s what’s left for camping at Tarhollow.

19 Days Out!

We will be heading over Friday and staying in a hotel in Chillicothe (my wife's version of camping).  I plan to be at the Tar Hollow dam meeting area around 0900 Saturday morning.   As best I can tell we are around 14 Willys at this point.

The leaves are beginning to turn here.  The soybeans fields are turning yellow and it has been dry for a few weeks.  Forecast is looks dry for the next two weeks with high temps in the low 70 degrees range.  So, this could be a sweet fall drive.

Please prep you vehicles.  We do love to wrenching on early CJs but driving them is fun also!

Something new - It sounds like were are going to have perhaps 3 Willys pickup trucks joining us this year.  Which is pretty cool, we have never had trucks on one of our outings over the past 25+ years.

Talked to my brother Ron yesterday.  He has run into a carburetor problem with his CJ3A restoration and won't be able to work through it in time. He's bummed about missing out but will circle it on his calendar for next year.

I just finished making a bikini top for Grasshopper in case of rain and am on track to arrive at the campground on Friday.

Are you gonna update your build how you did you’re biking top? Since I’m driving my 2a down I’m looking making a bikini top, if I get it running first lol.

Hi Ruffy!  Yes I'll document the whole bikini top project on my thread.  I was really hoping to do that this past week so you could see it but I have been preoccupied with getting ready for the OFCT next weekend.  I relied a lot on jpet's "build your own canvas top" thread but made a few changes - here's the link: https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/make-your-own-canvas-top_topic10355_page1.html. ; I currently have all the gears out of the rear end and ran into some problems there but I WILL have it going for the tour.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

We are a week out and it sound like there is a lot of vehicle prep being done!

Next weekend's forecast is - dry with temperatures in the mid-50s to low 60s for Saturday the 17th.  The trees have started to turn and the colors here are spectacular this year.
We are expecting rain from the remnants of hurricane Delta on Sunday 12th and Monday 13th. So, the water holes on a few roads maybe full.  The creeks roads should be down and the ford on Albright should be like last year.  We are not be driving /swimming the deep fords on Salt, Pretty or North Branch this year.  Maybe the "8's" of the East could try that so time.

Based on the current count we will do two groups.  We are assuming everyone has 4-wheel drive.

We would like to meet at 0930 (at the Tar Hollow State Park Dam Parking lot (Pine Lake)),  have a driver's meeting and be on the road by 10:00.

Remember the whole Covid Distancing thing and be respectful of others.

See everyone next weekend.   If you are on the fence and would like to attend  - Just make it happen - this has been a year of no Reunions, few car shows and lots of restrictions keeping a lot of people at home.  When your grandkids ask what did you do during the Pandemic of 2020 - you don't want to tell them that you just stayed home in the basement and watched Youtube.

Be Safe Out There.

I've worked for six months to get my Jeep ready for this ride. I installed four new tires, new shocks, bell crank repair kit, drag link rebuild, new u-joints, pinion seals, 12 volt conversion and numerous other upgrades. Unfortunately or fortunately, my high school aged daughter's soccer team won sectional and will be competing in Regionals next Saturday. I'll have to join the ride next year. I do appreciate the organizers effort on this. It motivated me to get alot done. I hope everyone enjoys the colors next weekend.

Bummer!  I know how you feel.  I scrambled to be able to go to the Willys Spring Reunion then Covid cancelled it.  Look how much progress you made on your Jeep though!  You definitely made the right decision - kids are only young once!  Hope to see you next year.

Weather report looks completely dry for next weekend!

Here is a picture of the colors from this weekend.  Not sure what that yellow line is between the truck and that high centered old Jeep (log under the skid plate).  Probably just a camera issue Wink

Looks like you're trying to pull that funny fender over that hump of grass at the edge of the road. Pity they can't even get over that!
