Ohio Fall Colors Ride – Oct 15th, 2022 (always the third Saturday in October)
A group of Ohio flat fenders are getting together on the Saturday of October 15th, 2022 to drive the unmaintained roads in the area between Tar Hollow State Forest and Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio. This is our sixth year and some of us are making this a spouse outing this year (like last year). We usually have 12 to 15 flat fenders (yes, we would like to keep this as a flat fender event). We will meet around 9:30 and ride for about 5 or 6 hours. The main group will drive the unmaintained county roads. Some roads are just creeks others are old wagon roads that run property lines up into the hills. Last year we added a Paved Road Group - That was a success. We are hoping to do this again this year. The slow paved road group is for people who might have nicer vehicles or just want to stay out of the dirt. This year - Rumor has it - that on Friday the 14th a group is going to take on the ford in Salt Creek and climb the Lady Run Road to the top. Might be the beginning of The Crazy's of the East. Vehicles attending must be licensed and insured because these are state roads. Valid driver’s license for all those who will be driving. Liability resides with the driver on these roads. The plan is to meet at Tar Hollow Lake parking lot below the dam on the left side of Tar Hollow Road at 9:30am on Saturday. There is also a campground around at location for those interested in camping. Get unloaded and be rolling by 10:00. The Lake parking lot are about 3/4 of a mile up Tar Hollow Road which is off of State Route 327. There is a big sign for Tar Hollow State Park at the entrance. Cell phone service seems to have improved in recent year but is still sketchy in spots. Bring a trail lunch and a tow strap. Hopefully, we will have great weather, but I have found that good Jeeping can be had in all weather if we are prepared and the drivers are up for the challenge. Should be a blast - unmaintained roads, old Jeeps and fall colors! Take a look at Google maps and let me know if you cant find the meeting place. Here is a link showing the meeting spot. We will be driving the road East / Northeast of the meeting place. Question for those interested or planning on camping this year. There are nine spots around around the dam/spillway parking lot where we’ve met the last two years. If there’s enough interest I’ll reach out to the Park and see if we can reserve all nine spots.
The next question will be how long. Thursday night through Saturday night (for those wanting ride Friday) vs Friday night through Saturday night. Thoughts?

Already marked on my calendar! Planning on camping as usual. I'd be up for arriving Thursday and getting in 2 days of wheeling.

I plan on being there this year, had a great time last year. I hope everyone planning on running Friday will post times and places, I’d love to do 2 days instead of just Saturday.

Reservations can now be made for the non electric sites around the parking lot where we meet. They are sites 87 thru 95. They get reserved fast so don't delay if you're wanting to camp there. Me and my brother Ron are in Site 89. I am planning on arriving Thursday night (Oct. 13) so we can wheel Friday and Saturday.

We did make a short scouting trip over Easter. 4 Jeeps -Seth, James, Jordan and my 1946. Roads were wet and muddy in spots. Seth tested his safety gear. Nice day for lockers. Edited by Stev - 18 Apr. 2022 at 9:41am |

I recognize all those spots! Looks like you had fun. Hope Seth's jeep didn't get too scraped up. Wish I lived closer!

I'll probably drive home on Sunday again. Travel time for me is 3hrs 45min. It's a lot easier to drive home rested and in the daylight.

Here is the current site availability around the parking lot… there’s other sites around park that available too. The plan is to do wheeling (possibly harder stuff) on Friday for those interested.
