This one is a little confusing as I have four different types.  I'm going to make some assumptions here as the parts lists are murky at best. Please give your input, as of this time I'm only speculating.
The '45 parts list gives #A-1230 as a part #. It doesn't specify Fram or any other.

In the '49 parts list it give A-1230 (up to Ser. No. 40352)

This next one came on my '45 and was mounted on the fender as the Jeep had a plow on it. (notice the fender mounting bracket)
In the '49 parts list it gives Part # 645638 (purolator Products) (After Ser. No. 40352)

This one was on my #58500. I didn't change it, so I'll (assume) it's original. I'll give the part # with all my "assumptions"
#643147 (after engine ser.# 40352) ( up to engine ser. #......) (yes this is like this in the parts book)

Finally I have this one. In the '49 parts list it has this at the end of all the other #'s.
(Fram F3-P2) (after engine Ser. No......) Yes that is what is in the book. I'm assuming here...This is on my neighbors Jeep with the MB motor.

As you can see each of these filter canisters are different in there size and mounting... even the straps are different, and after the straps were "scraped" the mounts to the bracket that hold it to the engine changed.
I am interested in what yours has and the ser. # your Jeep is.

Gary,
I am unclear on the difference between the top two. Can you please clarify what the lid says on the rim in the first photo. Also how about information on the drain plug location(s)? Thanks.

Here's another one to add to the mix.  I picked this one up a while back.  It's an NOS canister but I'm not sure what it's for.  What do you all think?

Looks correct for the vintage, but missing one clamping band.

The picture from danthman almost looks like it was taken from my jeep, right to the color of the jeep and the missing clamping band. Different air filter though. Smile

Having just replaced the oil lines I wondered what the position of the canister should be? Before I took the canister off, the upper line was routed just like danthman's; going to the side of the bracket. Although for a couple reason I thought it made more sense to raise the canister and have the line run over the top, just like the last pic that Gary posted.

However to make that happen the canister needs to be fairly high and if I had the second clamping band it would be pretty darn low on the canister.

What is the intened position for my late 48 production?

Fellows,
I will ad my filter to this list, it is a fram on an MB engine, no idea on identification
Here are photos

And after paint

It is presumed by me to be the first filter shown, a Military filter as is stated on top, yet has a Fram label and is all black.

That's correct.  It's the "Miltary Standard" Fram filter used on late war MB & early CJ2A

Good to know, and I'll just leave those pictures as an addition to the thread, mine CJ has an MB engine so it is correct I suppose :)
Thanks!

So how do we know the difference between the Fram and the Purolator? And which one is the C3 and which is the C4 as listed on the parts sites when I attempt to purchase new flex lines?

Thanks,
Dave

Jerry, I'm a recent owner of a 45 also, and am wanting to change the oil; I'm being told that there are a couple different filter sizes.  Hoping that you can save me some of the leg work and let me know what filter works for you.  Thanks, TimSmile

Yes it would be great to be able to see these pictures now and in the future. all this info in the part section does no good if the picture go away after time. Is there anything we can do about this or am I the only one that cant see them?  Thanks Mike
