BUT which one of you guys sneaked into my shop last night and made off with my Lathe Chuck Key?

3 of us looked for a half hour then the son inlaw and my son lost interest and I still have no clue where its at. Something that normally never moves more then 3 ft unless I pack it with me to the work bench (6 ft away) And yet does not appear to be anywhere in the shop.

No, you will find it after you build/buy a new one. When you go to put the new one away, it will be laying right where you want to put the new one. You will not even be looking for it. Worse yet, everyone will have looked there at least three times each. At least that is how it works for me.Big smile

I hear ya. My son and I looked high and low yesterday for my two-foot level that I couldn’t find the day before. “It shouldn’t be hard to see, it’s bright red!”  We gave up and used a one-footer and moved on to other problems. Later, while looking for something else, he found it - sitting on the ledge of a bottom toolbox, in front of the bottom drawer of the top box - a bright red top box! The hell of it is, as soon as I saw it, I remembered putting it there!  Confused   BW

Ha. I built a pair of end tables one for my wife and the other for myself.  In the evening when I’d go to set down if there was something left in my pocket I’d set it on the end table. One time when I couldn’t find whatever it was I knew I had put there I asked the wife if she had seen it. She told me to look in my drawer. Wheres “my drawer”?  It’s in your end table. When I looked in there I found what I was looking for.  Along with a couple of years worth of lost stuff. Anytime she found something of mine she’d throw it in “my drawer”. I’d never had a drawer of my own before.  Outside of the bedroom or garage. Drawers had always been hers. There’s probably 60 or more in the house all hers except 5.

I went on a rampage the other night trying to find my favorite pliers. I searched the entire house, vehicles and re did it all. On the good side, I found the missing top for my water bottle and one last effort I checked again the table by my front door. There they are. They are my favorite pliers, Knipex if you need to know

Sometimes a memory is not a wonderful thing to have. I have been working on something and know what tool I need. I get about half way to my toolbox and the tool I wanted was stolen about 30 years ago.

All of us that that do hands on work knows exactly how you feel. I would use something else until it shows up. My 3 jaw uses a 3/8" square key and I use a 3/8" socket extension when I turn the chuck when using it to  thread with using a tap or die and it could be used for a key if needed.

Last week we lost our small Apple TV remote. My wife and I looked for it for hours, practically turning every piece of furniture upside down. We couldn’t figure out where it went as we had used it the day before. So we went over our every move prior to losing it and my wife realized that she had thrown out my pile of sales flyers. You know the ending... it was in the garbage with the flyers!! Thankfully we hadn’t yet put the garbage out!

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and hoping you will find all your missing parts, tools,etc.... ! Cheers!!

OK the gremlins brought it back this morning. It was sitting in the general area of the second most likely place for it to be. On my work bench about 1/2 an arms reach from where I stand and fiddle with what ever I am working on that fits on the bench. Another words right under my damn nose. This same area had been searched and stirred and searched at least 4 if not 10 times yesterday.

SO I am quite certain it was Gremlins

I hate Gremlins.
