What should I be looking for in an old USA chain hoist. Capacity? Wear parts? I found a nice 2 ton and lots of over-priced (my opinion) ones from 1000lbs to 4ton.
Hoist trolleys: Size needs to match or exceed hoist. Assuming I beam style. My use will be an outdoor A-frame and lifting various whatever. I think a 1ton would be more than enough but am open to advice. Edited by jhg - 03 June 2023 at 1:10am |

Obviously the smaller capacity hoist is twice as fast. They both operate up/down by 1 to 4 links per each ratchet on the lever.. Chain can be released from pawl to quickly adjust chain length with no safety issues. 3/4 ton 1-1/2 ton Edited by oldtime - 03 June 2023 at 8:16am |

Definitely inspect the chain very closely, I bought an old crusty antique chain hoist for my shop and it has a few damaged links that can cause it to bind up.

I’d be willing to sell my CM 1-1/2 ton hoist if your interested.
My pop bought it new on late 50’s or possibly the early 60’s.

I would agree with Oldtime on the riggers hoist verses a chain hoist or chain fall as some call them, as they are very slow and you have a chain laying in your work. The newer riggers hoists are very nice and I have several of different sizes, very compact 👍🏽

Good advice all around. I was not aware of the CM, or the issue of chain in your way.
