"Never jump the cage".
Thats what we were taught running heavy equipment (skidder and articulated loader). I have gone over twice and in the cage is def the best place to be. I know there are anecdotal tales that suggest someone survived because they left the cage, but I really doubt that. It is a great feeling knowing you will not be crushed as you are going over. Speared by a tree maybe, but not crushed. Clearing right of way for a camp in the mountains. Grappled a tree and it flipped my loader.
