nofender, you know I suggested you get a new tub. I think you need to get it done asap, so you will want to rid yourself of that crawler. Yes that one over there in the corner. It can't possibly still love you, now that you brought that other one into the shop. It needs a new home. I will let you have supervised visitations, but not on weekends. I'm the best.

I like it, I'm going through the body work game too. Check my build thread to see how I formed my own rear quarter panels if yours need repair/replacement.

You're so kind! Thanks for the offer. But i wouldn't wish this ornery old crawler on anyone. It's a hateful beast that should have been put down years ago!

Got more done on the tub. I installed the floor riser. It took some time as i had to rework the wheel tubs leading edge. The frame was broken on the passenger side. The flexing really wreaked havoc on the passenger side sheetmetal. It took some pushing, prodding and cutting to get things square and level. I  still need to move the cowl about a quarter inch to be square corner to corner. Once I cut the passenger side panels out, I'll be able to get that 1/4. I suppose I shouldn't be all that worried about that small amount. After 70 years the tub is bound to be a bit "off"

next up will be trimming and tacking in the driver floor. Then i'll start cutting away the passenger side.

Hey look. I am use to putting down critters here on the farm and then burying them under the compost pile, its not a problem. What are you using for a welder? I've been looking at a new ESAB Rebel, but can't pull the trigger yet. And do you have a bender?

I use a Miller 250X. It took me some time to get used to this machine. But I love it. They only made the 250X a couple years. It's a beast. I've narrowed some Dana 60's over the years. This machine can weld a knuckle on in a single pass.

I switch to .030 for sheetmetal work. This welder never seemed to like .023. It does nice work with .030. For general fab, I put in the .035.

I think the ESAB Rebel is a killer machine. I've thought about going that route. But this 250X holds some sentimental value. It was originally owned by my friend Norm, who passed some years ago. But if i didn't have this - EASB Rebel would be my choice.

And yes......I have a JD2 bender with an air over hydro conversion.

Sweet, I knew the metal in the pictures must have had some extra loving, you can't do with a vise or sheet metal pliers.

Making some progress. Spent a considerable amount of time shaping and prodding and pulling to get a decent fit. I"m pretty close to being able to start tacking things in place.

Looking good, what type of air/hydro unit are you using for your press? I have one of those foot pedal type units
I use for my tubing bender but it's to slow and doesn't have enough capacity for my press. Why are all you other jeep guys way out in the western part of the state?

No hydro on the press. But I did convert the JD2 bender with this kit from Swag off Road:

I'd love to use my press more for forming parts but it's too slow. It's home made from a bulldozer piston with about a 4" diameter and an 18" stroke so it will take a substantial reservoir. Been going to make one but never got around to it, I've got a 48" finger break for the sheet metal but I want to make heavier parts. Bracing the tub is a good idea before pulling it apart.

Some more progress. Repair made to the wheel well. The bow mount needed help. So I had to cut out the rot and get it straightened out. Spent a silly amount of time with the hammer and dolly getting the wheel well surface where I wanted. Not perfect by any means, but light years from where it was.

Feeling good! Body is within 3/16 of an inch of square corner to corner. That's more than livable considering where this tub started.

The body probably wasn't that square when it was new.

Thanks guys!

Mark, the work you did on your tub is nothing short of amazing. Very curious about the epoxy you use. I can see using that product in a few places in my project.

I've done some patchwork over the years. But I've never done a full blown "resto" such as this. Learning as I go! I'm debating on the floor channels. I'm leaning towards doing something of my own design. We'll see once I get there.

nofender, listen    you have to slow the hell down ! Otherwise you are going to go past where I am right now and that took me four years to get to. If this type of conduct continues, I'm going to have to come to your garage and disassemble the entire tub, so you have to start over.

LOLLOLLOL I still have to completely weld in the floor, replace the rear floor and rework the rear driver side corner. So I still have some work cut out for me.

It will be one year on April 23 since I picked up this project. I've set my goal to be in paint and bolted to the chassis by that date. I know it won't be done. But I intend to push to meet that milestone deadline!
