That crack is fairly common, and a lot of blocks have been scrapped because of it. But they are becoming scarce, and some folks have had fair-to-good luck with repairing them, in a number of different ways. I would not scrap it. I have a CJ engine in my GPW that has been cracked and welded. The weld looks like it was put there by a pigeon, but it almost doesn't leak. It seeps just enough to stay always wet, but never enough to run down and drip off. It's such a sweet running engine, there's no way I would throw it away. GPW engines are quite a bit scarcer than CJ's, and if you don't wish to try to repair it or have it repaired, someone else would. BW

many thanks!! I'm pretty sure there is no pressure in area of crack..if cylinder walls clean up ok i will probly patch it...i think this block is only bored .03...any clue as to age of said block ??
