What I believe to be all original. Short non-adjustable arm.
Part #'s
Mirror is 5" diameter, no brand markings. The arm is @9" OAL, @8" between mount holes, 5/8" diameter, .060" wall tube. This is a lot stouter than the repros. Mirror Details The mirror itself is 5 1/16" diameter. The whole thing was painted black, including the swivel ball: Arm Details Measurements:
There's been some discussion about the original length, as some have been finding arms of a different size on their 2As. As evidence that a 9" arm (8" between holes) is the correct size (for earlier versions at least), I've done some relative dimensioning from some of the early period photos we've found. In the photos below, the green line is mirror diameter, the red line between bolt centers. The numbers are line pixel count. Doing the math using 5" dia. for the mirror, the 3 arms all come in at @ 8" between bolts. First one from CJAlaskas '47: The short green line is tube diameter, measures 12.5 pixels Doing the math on these, the arm comes in 8", the dia. .625" Next is from the '47 shown in the Reference photos. The tube dia. here is 10.26 pixels: Doing the math here, the arm comes in 8.01", the dia. .65" Last is Bill Oakes photo of a '45, also in the Reference photos Doing the math here, the arm comes in 7.99", couldn't get accurate enough for a dia. A longer arm (10 3/4") has also been found on CJ2A. When it came into use is unknown at this time, but almost certainly after the '47 parts list was published. This one was said to be NOS. Arm length was stated as 10 3/4". No part number was given, but it came in the later Red & Blue box packaging, so is later than '49 (I don't know for sure when the packaging changed). Diameter appears a bit larger than the short arm above. Glass retainer is stainless, not black painted. Sean |
