Has anyone here used PSC1000 and diesel fuel and could tell me which they liked better?

I dont know what PSC1000 is, but I worked for a guy that insisted on using diesel fuel in his parts washers because he had lots of trucks, therefore lots of diesel fuel, and he didn’t want to spend money on solvent. Not worth a darn as solvent, hard to get off of the parts itself, hard to get off of your skin (yeah, yeah, I know, wear gloves,) and hard to get out of your clothes.

I use the PSC1000 (from Tractor Supply) and have been pretty pleased with it. I thought I'd be cleaning out the parts washer and putting in fresh solvent, but it keeps going and going.... I have bought the next 5 gallons, and added a little bit to bring up the level in the tub. Very seldom use the pump, just brushes and soaking stuff. My (imperfect) understanding is that the primary ingredient is mineral spirits.

I've recently started using the PSC1000 also. I always used kerosene and/or diesel fuel in the past. The PSC works as well or better, smells much less, and lasts longer and has a high flash point. I'll keep using it.

Using both kerosene mixed with mineral spirits for years. Since the K2 leaves a slight oily film, the mineral spirit helps cut that.

I’ve been interested in the water-based cleaners for a while now and would like to hear what folks are using and how well it works. I bought a stainless steel parts washer at an auction that’s made specifically for those solutions. It even has a heater for the solution. I’d like to fill it up and try it out but I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a trial-and-error process to find a good solution.

kerosene  works great. I even strain it and reuse it. I buy it at a gas station right out of a gas pump.

Most of the water based degreasers contain sodium hydroxide as the main ingredient. Such as; drain cleaners, oven cleaners, hot tank solution, restaurant hood cleaner, also commonly know as lye. It's very cheap, can be very strongly mixed and is extremely hard on skin and if it gets in your eyes can cause permanent damage- so be careful!

I use Castrol's Super Clean a lot to degrease stuff and NaOH is the main ingredient in it. I would surmise that the "Purple" cleaner is the same and contains it too.

I use Kerosene in my parts washer as well. Works great... although it is flammable so one has to be very careful to keep it away from ignition sources. In addition, I have a 25 micron bag filter in the drain to catch the large particles and a 10 micron canister filter inline with the output to further filter what is coming out the nozzle.

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife.

I use simple green. EDIT: I just tried cleaning the transmission and Tcase bundle and ended up going to a  solvent. Simple Green is ok for small parts not real dirty but not up to snuff for a grease/oil/dirt/clay encrusted part.

I have been using kerosene in my HF bench top parts washer for a bunch of years.  It works OK but as much as I try to not get any on me (long gloves, rubber apron, ect,) I always end up with little splashes on me and I bring the stink into the house.  After washing parts for a couple hours I go nose blind to the smell but my wife lets me know!LOL  Also the kerosene always leaves an oily film that doesn't evaporate that I have to clean off before painting.

I'm going to try the PSC1000 from Tractor Supply (44.99 for 5gal.).  Supposed mild odor and high flash point (174F).  Being a solvent it should evaporate leaving no film behind.   I ordered PVC gloves though, because it is reported to eat latex.

I'll report back once I've tried it and seen if I've passed the nose test in the house.

I've always used Stoddard Solvent.  The is specified in a lot of aviation applications as not harming aluminum
