My daughter has always wanted a pink jeep. Me... not so much. She keeps jokingly asking me to paint one of my jeeps pink but I don't really want to. I do have one that she could drive to work (2003 Rubicon) but it's Inca gold with 17,000 miles so it's not going to change colors. I have a few licensed, drivable 1940's jeeps and she can drive a stick, but they're not really something she would want to drive around more than a Friday night Dairy Queen cruiser so I don't really feel any desire to paint one of my jeeps pink just for her to do that. But she is getting married this coming August and she's looking for some sort of fun, cool, classic car style vehicle to get chauffeured from the wedding venue, to the hotel a few miles away... I have a 44 GPW that's been restored to original, but it's olive drab and that's not gonna change. I have a tan 46 2A that isn't perfect, but it's in great shape and it looks like say a 1940's farmers family daily driver. But I JUST finished painting it over the winter so that's not going to change either. I also have a 46 2A that is a really cool white/rust patina that I did a frame off resto and that took me months to decide if I was going to ruin the patina with paint, but in the end I decided to leave it with the cool patina look, so that's not gonna change either. I do have a lime green 47 2A that I did a frame off resto-mod about 15 years ago. It could use a new paint job but it's my off roader with a full cage, 4 wheel discs, racing buckets and Terra tires. I could put road tires on it and paint it pink for her, but this one has full lockers, is not very roadworthy, and it's a pretty "manly" jeep so I'd rather not go pink with that either. This spring, I'm ready to start on my next project which was "going" to be a lefty 48. Since this is my only lefty, I was thinking I'd go all original with it in its original Luzon red color.... definitely not pink. That way I'll have a: Restored WW2 jeep (44) Restored civilian (red 48) "Daily driver" civilian (tan 46) Patina civilian (white 46) Off road toy (green 47) Now the tan one, and the white one have recently had the tubs put back on so it would be pretty easy to pull those tubs and put on another pink tub for her day... and I do have an extra fiberglass tub, hood, fenders and grill that's never been mounted. I could paint that fairly quick so that is a possibility... But then I was thinking one jeep I don't have is a Surrey Gala! I'm not a huge fan of pink, but I'm secure enough in my masculinity to own one. Especially if it's a Surrey those are kind of cool right? I mean Elvis had one! I'm thinking I could paint the fiberglass body, in the correct pink, I also have a 3A windshield frame that's in perfect shape that I could also paint in the correct color, then to make things quicker, I'd pull off one of the tubs I recently put on, either the white one or the tan one, and temporarily make it into a Surrey Gala, hopefully I'd get to the correct top, seats, and tires. After the wedding, I could switch tubs again, but then build a dedicated Surrey drivetrain for the tub. I could then get the correct bumpers, wheels, hub caps, etc... for it. It wouldn't be a correct "Surry Gala" build since the tub is fiberglass, but it'd still be a cool addition to my collection and I already have 3 other parts 2A's that I could use for the drivetrain. The engines are unknown on them but I could deal with that then. I really wanted to start on the lefty in a couple weeks, but maybe I should start on a Surrey lookalike instead. I'm not 100% sure I could get it done in time for the wedding in August, but I got the white one done in about 6 months and that was a frame off. (of course I didn't paint that one, but I did replace all the hat channels, floors, and patched a bunch of the sides. My tan 46 paint job only took a few weeks. I think I could at least get her a drivable pink jeep, just maybe not with the correct top, seats, bumpers, etc... She wanted to find an old classic car or something for the drive, and right now she doesn't know about this "possible" plan of mine. I honestly don't think she even knows what a Surrey Gala jeep is, but I know she would love that look. I'll probably ask her in the next few days and see what she says, but I'm a little afraid of what she'll say... She already has me making copper sign frames and decorations for the wedding... not sure I can pull this one off too. I hate having a deadline on my projects. I don't know... Sometimes I just need to type things out to help me make a decision. Does anyone here have a Surrey? Edited by Scratch - 30 Mar. 2023 at 11:31pm |

I remember when I was a kid the local "Lions Club" raffled off a CJ2A "Surry". It was pink, with a striped pink and white summer top, and pink and white striped seats. Looked like something Barbie and Ken would have rode around in.

What about a wrap? You can always peal it off later.

Scratch,
We’ve seen you knock out a quickie paint job, you could do it again. Some white Rustoleum with a splash of red in it.

Rustolieum makes a pealable spray paint in Matte Pink. It comes in 10oz cans so a whole Willys could take a dozen cans. But it would quickly get you a totally reversible Pink jeep for your daughter's wedding. Keep in mind the limited access to the back seat area in a Willys CJ while in a dress

I have thought about wrapping one, but the vinyl for wrapping is very expensive. I do vinyl cutting for signs and I actually have a 10 yard, 24" wide roll of pink sitting right here. I know my vinyl isn't the correct kind for car wraps but I may give it a shot as it's way cheaper. If it looks good for one weekend, I'd be happy.
I'll also buy a can of that Peel Coat by Rustoleum and see how that goes. It does come in pink...

Scratch I would think shooting some of that Rustolieum on a piece of metal with existing paint on it and letting it sit around for a week then seeing what its like to get off would be the way to go.

Plasti-dip from dipyourcar.com is what you're looking for, although for best peelable results you want a smooth glossy surface to put it on. They have lots of videos on Youtube about how to achieve different results and very good customer service.

Well, my time crunch for the pink jeep is gone. We decided that they’ll be driving from the venue to the hotel at like 11:00 at night and it won’t really matter what they’re driving since nobody is going to see them. If it was during the day, on a weekend, there’d be a bunch of people walking around, and it’d be fun to drive around, honking and waving. But it’ll be dark out and we don’t think having a cool car will really be needed. I’ve been doing some research on these Surrey’s though and I’m pretty sure I want one now. Or at least a clone. And it’s gotta be pink. I think I’ll start on the lefty next, and after that, I’ll get working on a Surrey clone. I think I’ll use that fiberglass body also. It has no tailgate like a Surrey and I really have no use for it anyways so I’ll use it. I think I’ll also start looking for a 2WD DJ drivetrain too. I’d like to get rid of the shifters on the floor for more foot space in the front like the Surreys had. I’ll also try for a column shift. Thanks for everybody’s suggestions on this, and keep your eyes out for a Surrey Gala build in the future. |

I think a Surrey would be cool - not necessarily pink.. maybe a bright yellow or orange.
A Surrey tribute?

Water based "Poster Paint" will make it pink, then just a quick run through a car wash will take care of that.
My father, before he even knew my mother, worked with her older brother Bill. Bill was really proud of the 39 Ford sedan he had bought and bragged about it so much that my father snuck into his garage and painted a big Blue Stripe from one bumper to the other on than brown Ford using Poster paint. For many years my uncle Bill thought his younger brother Tommy had pulled the prank. My father didn't fess up until they were all old men, and it was funny by that time, because it washes off with water.
