Hello Willys enthusiasts.
I am new to the forum. I have enjoyed the post and have learned a lot. Thank you. However, I am in need of advice. I have a 1950 M38 that was my Great Uncle's. I had planned to have the springs reworked. The shop is telling me that the springs are pitted and that I may want to purchase new ones. I have read some post that new springs may not last long. Has anyone re done there leaf springs if the spings where pitted? Not sure what to do. Thanks for your thoughts. J

Hey EJ, welcome aboard-
I'm gonna go with the ever definitive "it depends" Mine were pretty pitted upon disassembly, but I went with them and have had no issues (including some pretty decent off roading). Your tolerance for risk or need for reliability may differ. You can see how bad mine were here ----> https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/46-cj2a-69750_topic36996_page2.html MB

Hello MB. Thanks for the reply. Your information is very helpful as my springs look alot like yours did. Not sure yet what I will do. This jeep has been used by cousins and myself since 1956 when my Granpa started our camp. I have to consider that I will have cousins that will be using the jeep so I need to get their opinions. This will help us make a decision. Thanks again for your reply. J

There used to be a guy that advertised over on the EWillys page and I just decided to go meet the guy so I drove to Arvada. He was rebuilding springs for a 2A Jeep. He just wire brushed everything off well and put a few coats of good paint on them and put them back together with some of those Teflon pads at the end of the spring leaves. He said that he has been doing it that way for years and there has never been a problem. I cleaned up the springs on the MB. Tore them apart, cleaned them and just put a minimal amount of grease wherever they may touch. Worked for years
