Well, since Ol' Red is a girl jeep (and I know this because she can be a little bitchy at times), and women don't have to register for the draft; I know she'll not get drafted into the military...
Really, since the owner has the say about what they want to do with their rig, I don't see what the problem is... All good here... Saddle up and drive it like you stole it...quit worrying about what the guy in the front of you did with his ride. The hobby is supposed to be fun, not something to get upset about... |

On the flip side - the civilian Jeeps are far less likely to be dragged into time (rebuilt). I am amazed at the number of military Jeeps (real and fake) that are out there and guys are putting MB sheet metal kits on frames and making more. The CJ2A Jeeps with their bright colors (very Andy Warholish) and tremendous options are a prize of the post war era. These are Americanah! If you want to build a CJ2A into a military Jeep - find a Lefty and do some research on the IDF's Jeeps in 1948 and 1949. That is what a Militarized CJ2A should look like.
Your Jeep do what you want. As a veteran I don't really care -thanks for putting it back on the road. Perhaps, someone in the future, just might make that militarized wonder into a very cool CJ2A with bright colors for vacation spot. |

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

This is why I frequent this page. Unlike other unnamed pages that have a very strong Jeep Police Force, this page seems to have a live & let live policy on what you do with your Jeep. I strongly adhere to this policy, as do most posters.

Been thinking of how much trouble it would be to repaint my 3a from OD to maybe sand grey. Looking at yours I gotta say, I like it. Think I'll leave mine as is.

It was a special option offered only in 1949 between April 13th and May 1st. Very very rare! Actually, the timeline between photos is a little whack. I found the original style 15" wheels a few years back. |

Perhaps a little late to the game but another that has a dislike for clones and would put the civiy clothes back on it. Clones make my stomach rumble a bit. But not near as bad a rumble as seeing a "Willys" edition of a Wrangler-which flat make me want to puke.

Curious how the jury feels about taking a run of the mill Cutlass and slapping some 442 badging on it

I have owned a half dozen 62-64 Chevy II "Novas". I bought a 63 once, a 4 door with the 4 cylinder, which someone had badged as a super sport. Didn't bother me, I thought it was funny.
What this discussion demonstrates to me is the hobby has room for people with various ideas. I am building with a reproduction body, so even if I had bought a reproduction CJ body the end result would still be a "clone", or "fake" or whatever you want to call it. I am not building it to suit other people.

I took Grandpa's and Grandma's absolute base model 1971 Ford Maverick and turned it into a fuel injected 347 Grabber clone using factory parts. To me there is a big difference between a clone and a "tribute.". Other than the fuel injection, Grandpa could have ordered the Maverick this way. You couldn't have ordered a 2A as an MB/GPW. A check of the serial number reveals that the Maverick is a clone.
