Update: March 7 Some "pre-production" parts. The leather is a little thinner than stock (.040-.045" vs .050"), but near perfect colorwise. The thinner leather is proving problematic to get the cut & finish just right: the TC boot is working out good, but I'm not completely satisfied with the PTO boot (fitting a round peg to a square hole - what was Willys thinking?). One sample set is in the field now (I'll be sending out a couple of more sets this week) to get feedback. Once I've settled on a final product, I'll be contacting everyone on the list. In any event, nobody will be obligated. If you don't like the final product, you'll get your money back. ===================================================================== I can make these, but I need to gauge interest before going any further. These are PROTOTYPES only: disregard coarse leather finish & color, final product will be made of finer nap split leather (suede finish, like the current crop of repro TC boots). The prototypes came out a bit too large for the retainers, but now I know how to adjust the pattern for a near exact fit. Price? : right now, I can only take a wild guess at price: about $20-30. Early wild guess was way over the top! Now that I've had time to price out the leather, and time involved, preliminary costs (still subject to a minor +/- adjustment):
Color? : Olive Drab for sure (I believe that was the original color). Go see "What is OLIVE DRAB" for color comparisons. Other colors if there is enough interest to make it cost effective: "TAN" (close to the prototype color) is on the list now. So, if you'd buy one, let me know (w/your color preference): reply here, or PM, or email. Photos will enlarge: PTO Boot Prototype Transfer Case boot prototype: Sean

maybe he would allow you to measure his leather boot before someone executes the buy-it-now and it gets shipped :)

I take one.
Prefer it to be left natural leather color if possible.
I can dye it to the color of my choice.
Are you selling the retainers also?

Got everyone on the list, thanks guys!
Art:
If you could confirm overall height though, that would help. Height perpendicular to the tub, to the highest point it reaches on the shift lever? And can you determine any original coloring? Jeff: If yours is going on your Overdrive/PTO lever, it might need to be adjusted to fit. I'll PM you w/dimensions to confirm. Shawn:
I'll be using the same leather Willys specified: "chrome tanned". That process kills all "natural" color, and leaves the leather a blue-grey color. It's almost universally dyed afterwards to produce the popular colors that people want, and almost any color is possible.

Dennis,
Is your power take-off boot retaining ring round or square? The transfer case shift lever boot retaining ring is round, but the power take-off lever boot retaining ring is square. |

Correction Sean - too much time between measurment and posting; I went and checked it again and was an inch too tall it was 2 1/4" but its stiff 2.5 could be possible.

Sean
Missed this thread. Hope its not too late. I'm interested in one. I'd even vote for you to make a set of all three: PTO, Shifter, and transfer case...... The tan one shown would be a perfect match for Lefty's Reedkini so thats's my preference.
Thanks, Allen

2.5" is just an "about". The prototype comes in at 2.38", based on the only good dimensions I could still get off Garys boot. Once I get a double-check from Howards boot, I'll have final dimensions. Sean
