I am trying to remove the PTO from the transfer case of my 45 CJ2A. I removed the 5 bolts and positioned the shifter forward as I read in a post from here. The PTO separate about an inch and then won’t go any further. I can’t find anything in the internet to assist. Has anybody encountered this? Any suggestions would help!

Thanks

Welcome to the forum! You posted this in the Trailer tech section, but I bet a moderator can relocate it for you to the CJ2a tech section for help. Any mods out there??

Should pull straight out the back of the Dana 18 with no glitches.
What particular PTO is this ?
Not an overdrive or is it ?

This is my first rebuild. I believe it’s the PTO. If I could figure out how to get a pic uploaded, I’ll add it to to the post.

Might try removing the shift lever. If you are able to move the pto back about an inch, the lever may be hitting the edge of the hole in the body. Also, if the pto housing is close to the body, it may be hitting it as well.

I assume you don’t have a pto chain box mounted to the pto itself. It can have very close clearance with the body.
