From a troubleshooting standpoint, I find interesting that it ran fine - pulled engine, reinstalled, left rag in crossover tube - now doesn’t run. Makes me think something changed or not connect on engine reinstall. In full agreement about not changing parts without diagnosing problem first. Easter Bunny is good to remember!

So many looking (speculating) that something changed during the R&R of the engine, including the rag in the air pipe. Read this quote from the OP on page two:
“ I looked back at pictures and video of just before the engine was removed to change the ring gear, and I actually didn't get it started on my last attempt. It turned over, sputtered, and then promptly ran out of battery. So, the rag was likely in there already, since I was getting ready to remove the engine. I figured I had just flooded it and wasn't too concerned. Now I am.” So, it was NOT “running fine” before the engine was pulled. The manual was written for farmers and others with very little experience with carbureted gasoline engines. It’s great for them, but something must be said for those who read those books a long time ago and have many years experience with these things. We’ve seen all this many times before. BW

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

If you can't get there in a Jeep you don't need to be there!
