I have a friend that has owned his cj2a for quite some time. He knows the complete history of the vehicle and has the title. Everyone for years has argued with him that it could not be a 45 because they did not start making the civilian cj2a until 1946. Finally he got tired of arguing and got on the internet to start matching numbers.
From what he has found out ther are only 8 known 1945 cj2a's in existence. His has all matching numbers and only a little over 19K original miles. There were ruffly 1800 made in 1945. He is trying to find out where to go to get a fair price for this if he sells it. The last one they found on the internet was just a pile of parts with out an engine or transmission and it sold for $15K.
Does anyone know where to start with something like this. He is open to selling it but has know idea on its value. He wants to make sure and get fair deal. Do you think that a company like Ford would be interesed in one of there early model vehicles?

15k sounds a little high for a bunch of parts. A 1945 CJ2as are rare but do not bring the price of ww2 jeeps. There is also more than 8 known 1945 cj2as as there is about 8 listed on the photo page of the cj2a page (which is far from complete). I don't know the exact # but I know there is more than the ones listed in the photo section.
There were only 2100 so 1949 cj2as and they still don't bring a big price tag. I mean without pictures of the jeep it is near impossible for people to put a value on it. Really depends on the condition of the jeep body and modifications to it. The most interest for the jeep would probably be right on these forums. Mike G. in Baltimore has a few early civilian jeeps and could probably say a good range. Where is the jeep located? Those #'s of production are from http://www.thecj2apage.com/story.html Edited by Joshua Sayre - 05 Feb. 2007 at 5:25pm |

The jeep is located in southwest Mo. I will try to get some pics. I know that everything is orginal, he has had the engine rebuilt thought but it is still the original L 134. The $15k is only what he told me he had found on the internet. I did not see it myself. So do these not normally bring that high of a price tag, even that low of miles and all original?

I had an 1947 original jeep (27k I think maybe it is 37k) with low miles, body was rusted and was painted but it ran. I got it for 2k off of ebay and I'm restoring it.
Though an original 1947 with a good body just sold off ebay for around 8k. An early 1946 original cj2a went for i think 10-12k last year, not sure though on ebay. Low miles not such a big deal, but originality more. They can indeed bring the high price. Now in comparison I know an original 1945 willys mb with o say about 6k miles is around 30kish in perfect condition, which in comparison is far rarer b/c few were surplussed in 1945 and 46. Is it a CJ2A or a CJ2......the early ones were called CJ2 and they might be worth a premium.........

Look for items like brass passenger seat hinges tool indents brass name badges white gear shift knob on a column shift. There were some other notable differences on the early 2a's or the preproduction 2's.Ford would have no interest in this model as they never produced a civilian jeep. One person you could check with would be Jim at Northstar Willys in Dassel MN he has a very early 2a in great shape his # is 1-320-275-8888 It could be worth a substantial amount of money depending on the serial # and the condition(possibly more if it hasen't been restored)as well as if it has many of the rare parts that were only on the very early civilian models please let us know what the serial # is and keep us posted on what info you can find out about this gem.

My 1945 CJ is one of the last ones built, #11802. It has no rust, runs well and is a bit scruffy with dings here and there and some over paint on the rear. It's missing a few parts like the correct tail light, side mirror and keyed coil, but I was told by Brian at Brian's 4WD, who restores early CJ's and Agrijeeps that if I totally restored it, correct parts, new paint etc. AND I waited for the right buyer, it would be worth between $20 & $30K.
I think that's a bit high, and certainly any Agrijeep or straight CJ-2 would be worth the same or more, but if there's no rust, it runs and all the little parts are still with it, it could be worth $15K to the right buyer. Jerry Edited by Jerry 45 - 07 Feb. 2007 at 11:15pm |

Right buyer is right. There just isn't a market for these early civilian jeeps. Why spend the extra 20-30k when you can have a military or 2-3 civilian jeeps? Even though they are rare, they look normal. There isn't visual characteristics like the bantams, ford gp, and willys ma or even the slat grills that make them real distinctive.

my 1945 is ser#11713 or the 1,713th cj2a made in 1945 out of a total of 1824. so after mine they made 111 jeeps in 45. there are a few guys that have them here. ebay is one way to research pricing or just by speaking to these guys here. a 45 is rare and should be restored. the problem w/ selling on ebay is any schmuck could buy it and distroy it by making it a mudd bogger or rock crawler. the only people that will beable to tell the 45 from any other 2a are the hobbiest like most of us here. so like said above the right buyer is key. i would love some photos!!!
