I've moved away from the idea of side-facing jump seats. I'm just going to run a normal seat and pad the wheel-wells for occasional off-highway, low speed people moving.
That being said, I think I have some options with that rear seat: Early CJ2A seat ($289.00): http://walcks4wd.com/seat-frame-rear.html (Plus about $250 for cushions, it seems) Late CJ2A/CJ3a seat($289.00): http://walcks4wd.com/rear-seat-frame-cj3a.html (Plus about $250 for cushions, it seems) Corbeau Safari bench seat ($239.00: http://corbeau.com/bench-seats/safari.html PRP suspension seat($469): http://www.prpseats.com/product/suspension-bench-seat/# Bestop Trailmax II fixed seat https://www.amazon.com/Bestop-39437-37-TrailMax-All-Vinyl-Wrangler/dp/B001892TE2 Any other ideas? I don't know that I hold much hope in finding a good used or NOS rear seat locally that will cost me less than one of these options. Thanks! Edited by bigdaddy13 - 10 Aug. 2017 at 10:55pm |

How about later CJ5 or 7 (or 8 ) rear seat? Even the YJ Wranglers from '87-'95. TJ Wrangler seat?

I think the TJ's are too wide, but not sure on the others. I think I read somewhere that the YJ's were good-to-go, but I don't know for sure.

The YJ rear seat area is 36" wide just like the 2A. The TJ rear seat area is totally different, being wider at the top than at the bottom. This was to give more hip room for two people in the back. Was that a comment on the size of people in the '90s?

Don't forget about the school bus seat, seems like somebody said some we're 36". If you have a pipe bender you could make one too, did that for mine and it wasn't really hard.I could check the yj fit Mon if you need confirmation .

CJ7s (and I think some late CJ5s) used to have a factory folding rear seat for when you wanted more cargo space back there. With my old 5, I'd just remove the rear seat and hook up the utility trailer when I wanted to go cut some heater wood.

I saw a mid- 70's CJ rear seat in a flat fender that I liked. They already have the seat mounting hardware on the seat along with seat belts.
Pictures show the front mounting bracket. If you are lucky, might be able to find a decent one at a swap meet unless you want new. Like what the others have said, the later CJ's and YJ's had flip-n-tumble rear seats. Besides adding the front seat hardware where it hinges, there are a couple of brackets on each side of the fender wells that would help lock the seat in place when used. I had a MB once that had an additional standard passenger seat mounted in the back for the radio-man to sit in. This was a military set up not something someone put together later on. The stock little bench seat is impractical for any full size human. That rear seat set a little higher than the two front seats.
Added later to this post - If you google WW2 Radio Jeep and hunt around in the images area - there are some USN/ USMC Radio jeeps that also had a single rear seat of sorts. Edited by Stev - 11 Aug. 2017 at 4:19pm |

The one cjbilly posted the pic of is what was in my old Jeep. There were captive nuts under the floor back there and the seat belts were attached to the seat frame. Kind of a pain to take in and out at times though. Mine was stolen when I had it out for a few hours and left it in plain sight.

For what it's worth, cjbilly is spot on. I have my old CJ -7 rear seat poised and ready to mount in my 2A at any time. The seatbelt mounts are included. A quick glance at Quadratec showed them at around $200. The niece and the nephew love it. Good luck with your search!

Typical.
I have 2 rear seats for my Commando and you could drive by and take your choice of them. I may even help you load them. |
