Group 18-04
Rear Output Shaft
Part # A1764 until exhausted as per G503 then use #A8841
Spicer # SP-18-362-4
One of these is a replacement from a dealer. It uses 3/4 x 16 TPI castle nut and no Cotter pin hole, instead of the 3/4 x 20 Tpi and cotter pin hole on the original.
Part #A987 Bushing
These are two different bushings, from two different vendors that goes in the end of the shaft to support the front output clutch shaft. The one on the right is more like the one tht is inside my OEM shaft.
This bushing is to fit properly on the shaft. It is to be finish reamed to .625 ID after being installed 9/16 of an inch below flush from the end of the shaft.
The fit here is critical for the proper function of the gears, shafts and adjustment to the Tapered Roller Bearings supporting this big shaft.

Morning....I'm at this step in the rebuild of a Dana 18....How do you ream the bushing? I found some adjustable hand reaming tools on Amazon or does it need to go to a machinist?
If a hand reamer is OK...can you recommend what size or type?
Reviewing the previous post of reaming to .625 ID....when the shaft is inserted into the bushing...will it be snug or will it rotate inside the bushing? Appreciate any advice....Steve |

An inexpensive hand reamer is all you need. I would not recommend an adjustable reamer. Edited by dasvis - 26 Feb. 2023 at 11:59am |

I would measure it. My new one measured small so I ordered a reamer before I tried sliding the output shaft into. If I used the reamer I ordered without checking then I would have had too much clearance between the shaft and the bushing. The spec is .0017 to .005 inches of clearance. A retired Dana employee told .005 is worn out and he wouldn’t go past .003. My “by the book” reamer would have put me at .007”.
