I realized my rear seat spring clips were rusted shut so I thought that rather than spend the 100 bucks on new ones, I'd try to rebuild the ones I have. As you can see, they were in less than stellar condition...

I sandblasted it to see if it was too far gone to try anything else... but I think it's still salvageable. Edited by Scratch - 19 June 2022 at 7:53pm |

Using a screwdriver, I bent the tabs on one side and with a little effort, it opened right up. As you can see, the pins are in very rough shape and the springs are pretty much un-recognizable. Edited by Scratch - 19 June 2022 at 7:54pm |

I sandblasted the inside then cut some new pins from some 5/16" stainless rod. |

I talked to Scott Schiller who did this same rebuild, and he had some extra clock spring that he was kind enough to send me. |

Using a tin snips, I cut off two pieces that fit perfectly! Edited by Scratch - 19 June 2022 at 7:52pm |

I then closed the two body pieces together, bent back the tabs and touched up the paint again. Good as new, super easy, and I saved 100 bucks! I know it's still super pitted but putting it back in it's original location, you can barely see the majority of it, so I'm ok with the pitting I can see. Edited by Scratch - 19 June 2022 at 7:51pm |

Good job ! $100 seems pretty high for something like that, but I guess it is a small market. I haven't removed them yet from my CJ2A but they were functional when I removed the back seat, so probably should save them before I junk the tub.

If you can't get there in a Jeep you don't need to be there!
