    Posted: 07 Apr. 2020 at 8:14pm
I am attempting to remove the  rear output nut from the transfer case on my '47. When I attempt  to turn the nut the brake drum/ shaft turns or feels to slip in the  direction that I'm attempting to loosen it.  Any tips on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks  Matt

Is the trans in 1st or reverse and is the parking brake applied? You can also take the shift tower off and manually put the trans in 2 gears aat once, or remove the PTO attachment cover and wedge something in the gear teeth (something soft enough not to break gear teeth).

I did not set the parking brake but do have it in 1st gear. The brake drum/shaft spins freely.

I always used a big pipe 24" wrench to grab the yoke and let it hit the frame or ground. Because I had one avail.

HF has one for  $13. use it once or many times or borrow one from a friend or neighbor

Belleview ol skool winch soon.

Wedged the drum against frame as suggested and hit it with impact wrench. Nut came right off and yoke pulled off by hand. Thanks for the suggestions.

Now the problem is getting the oil seal out...it is pretty well mangled at this point and not moving. The seal puller just tore through the metal.

There is only one bolt securing the speedometer housing to the transfer case once the backing plate is removed. Take it out and remove the housing. Then you will be able to drive the seal out from behind. Easy peasy.
