Ok. New pump works, confirmed by fuel bubbling in the bowl, as well as fuel pumping out of the line when disconnected from the carb. Still can't keep PD running. Next check should probably be the float in the carb, but I'm not sure how to check that. Any input or recommendations?

Update: I was able to blow through the fuel line into the carb. The float does not appear to be stuck.

Ordered a carb rebuild kit for the Solex. Hoping replacing the jet, float, etc clears up whatever the issue is.

Well I have a line on an original Carter WO off a '48 2A! It's in desperate need of a rebuild, so I've already messaged Scoutpilot about it. Best part is: it'll be free, I've just gotta go pick it up!

Go with the Carter...MUCH less trouble AND even BETTER with a Scoutpilot rebuild!

I'm gonna go ahead and use the Solex rebuild kit to see if I can get it working, but my ultimate plan is to go with the Carter. It's in rough shape and is currently missing the upper part of the barrel, so I'm hoping that's mixed in with other parts. Regardless, it's going to be A LOT of work.

Went and picked up the Carter WO today! It's been out in the elements and is in very rough shape. Still waiting to hear back from ScoutPilot about a rebuild.

Got ahold of Scoutpilot and sent my Carter WO to him to rebuild! Looking forward to the result and to also having a reliable, working carburetor!

Talking with Scoutpilot over email, we decided that it would be easier and better to just build an all new carburetor. This one was just too far gone to justify. The good news is I'll be getting an all new Carter WO!!

Been a bit since I've been on. Life got pretty dang busy. But I got a new built Carter WO from Scoutpilot! Got it put on and Papa Doc has his first ride since getting a new suspension, new water pump, and new fuel pump! The engine purrs like a 70 year old kitten! Temp Guage never read above 180° (with a 160° thermostat in an Oklahoma summer)! Super happy to have the new carb and I'm looking forward to the next steps on this road!

Well, you know how these things go... You fix one problem and you find another!
So my driving around in Papa Doc went pretty well yesterday. Went on 4 separate short drives. I did notice that if my speed got higher, whenever I took my foot OFF the accelerator there was a vibration that I could feel through the pedals. I didn't so much notice the vibration coming through the body, just through the pedals and hear it. #2: I have noticed (as the weather got warmer) a small leak of lubricant coming from a hole in the bottom of the bellhousing. It looks like there should be a grease zerk in the hole, but I'm not sure. Looking forward to input from the gurus!

Cole: No grease zerk at the bottom of the bellhousing. The oil could come from either the rear main seal at the engine or the front seal of the transmission. If it is a just a small amount it is probably nothing to worry about. Jeeps leak. Monitor the levels in both engine and transmission on a regular basis and top off if necessary.
The vibration could be from a driveshaft that has a bad u-joint in it or worn spline and slip yoke. Since you don't notice it during acceleration it is more than likely the worn spline and slip yoke. At least you are not complaining of the transmission jumping out of second gear upon deceleration. That is a blessing. If you find you need a different driveshaft, contact me because I have a couple of spares I could give you. |

Also check to be sure the drive shafts are assembled correctly, https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/aligning-drive-shaft-crosses_topic12463.html

It's just a drop here and there, not a big leak at all. But I'll be sure to keep tabs on the lube levels. No problems with the transmission jumping out, thank goodness! I'll look into the possibilities you mentioned. Thanks!
