Luckily he didn't use it for that for a very long time.  I think he more used it for water on plants too far to get to with a hose, not so much with chemicals!

Good info.  I grabbed the torque spec sheet off here.  It's for the 2A, but I bet the 3A specs aren't any different.  I also bought a torque wrench yesterday, since I'm gonna need one eventually anyway!

Got the oil pan put back on today, new gas tank came in. I won't install that until a new rubber gasket comes in for the fill spout, as well as a new sending unit. Plus I need to pull it to the carwash and power wash all the crud off the bottom and the rust off the floorboards. Progress is progress even when it's slow!

Thank you! I'll probably slow down a bit once it's actually running! Haha!

Took the seat springs off the frames this morning. The driver's seat is every bit as bad as I thought it would be. The springs in the back are rusted through in a number of places, and the steel bottom of the seat is rusted out. The passenger seat was stored in the shed and is in much better condition. It's at least useable.

Got the new carburetor installed today! Fuel system will be coming along shortly! Still not finished with the oil side of the engine. Pulled the filter and discovered the housing was full of sludge. Took that off and the inlet hose shredded. So now I've got to order one of those...

Check your hose going to the tube that connects to the oil gauge too.
Thought mine was good, but it cracked in two when flexed.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to go ahead and replace that one as well. Better safe than oil everywhere!

Question. Are these appropriate oils to use for the engine, and for the transmission/transfer case and differentials, respectively?

Engine oil is ok.
Use 80w-90 in the differentials but not in trans/teansfer... will attack the brass parts.
Use SAE 90 mineral oil in trans/transfer. I get mine from Napa.

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife.

Took the rear tires off. Going to have them replaced with the same tires that are on the front. They hold air fine for now, but they were sitting stationary just as long as the front 2 that shredded. Don't want to risk it...

In other news, what is this tube that is coming off the oil fill spout? It has a big hole in it, so I'll have to replace it. The end of the tube is plugged with a bolt.

You are missing the air cleaner cross tube that went from the air cleaner in the right side over the engine to the carburetor. The hose the is plugged coming from the oil filler tube connects to the air cleaner cross tube. In your picture you can see the part of the cross tube bracket that is bolted under the head bolts. Walck's has a replacement cross tube but you are also missing the oil bath air cleaner.

Ah ha!! Mystery solved! I'm not going to be using the air cleaner, just an air fillet mounted on top of the carb. From what I've read, it's more efficient at keeping dust particles out.

Thanks for the info!

Does the hose running from the filler to the crossover tube also vent the crankcase?

I'm wondering the same thing.
