I figured you were probably buried at work, Joe, but thanks for letting us know. See you in Sept. (maybe)!

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife. |

Three Jeeps made the trip today taking the Fall River Road out of Estes Park to the Alpine Visitors Center and down Trail Ridge Road back to Estes Park. It was a beautiful day for a ride. For all of you flatlanders, a little explanation is required here. The Fall River Road was started in 1913 on an old Indian Trail to allow vehicles to cross the Continental Divide. WWI stopped the effort but the road was eventually completed in the early 1930's. Today, it is open to car traffic as a one-way gravel road and connects with Trail Ridge Road at the Alpine Visitors Center (elevation 11796 feet). It is a very easy ride for the Jeeps as vehicle speed is usually 10-15 mph. Trail Ridge Road connects Estes Park and Grand Lake and runs for 48 miles. It is the highest paved road in the US and, at one point, is literally built on the ridge of the Continental Divide. The highest elevation on Trail Ridge is 12,183 feet, well above tree line and there was snow on the ground around us.
Both roads are open only in the summer as the snow pack can easily exceed 20 feet. The wooden poles that are visible on the side of the road are markers for the snow plows when they begin to open the roads in the spring. Yes, the snow really does get that deep! During Covid, a park pass ($2.00) is required in addition to the regular RMNP fee. This must be obtained in advance. If you are in Colorado, don't miss this drive! The three Jeeps - Bruce (calndrman) 1949 2A, Tom (aboyandhisdog) 1949 3A, Terry 1948 2A. Fall River Road Alpine Visitors Center At the summit on Trail Ridge Road. The poles on the side of the road are reference points for the snow plow drivers in the spring. I will post a few videos on my Instagram page (search brucelinafelter). |
