A modern M416, even stronger than the original and with a "sleeper compartment!" Your design and construction are beautiful--the trailer looks great with your Wrangler. Well done!

Looks good Mark.....good looking companion to the Wrangler.

(And from first post to camping on the beach in less than one day!).

What beach is that?

We've been talking about a trip to Austin.

I did something vaguely similar for much the same reasons.  Back when I thought tent camping in the back country was something my family would do I built this trailer to tow behind my CJ5.  We took one trip out to Colorado with it when my now 23 year old son was 2 (his younger brother stayed home with grandma and grandpa).  It followed the Jeep anywhere I wanted to go and worked out pretty well.
Since then I painted it light gray (so it wouldn't heat up in the sun), sealed up the lid and tailgate better and replaced the jerry can with a spare tire.  But also since then my family decided that a slide-in pickup camper (and now a 29' motorhome) back at a base camp is a better option, so that's the only off-road trip the trailer ever went on.

edit:  I should point out (as if you didn't already realize this) that your trailer is a lot more professional looking than mine.  And maybe if I'd added a roof-top tent to mine we'd have used it more.  But it is a lot nicer driving a pickup (or motorhome) towing a CJ across country than driving the CJ, so I'm not sure it would have made any difference to my family.

I like the cj-5! I had a '65 that was red just like yours!  We like the tent, but on the beach everything would get full of sand. With it up on the trailer, it's much better! Plus, with no poles, lines or stakes, it sets up in just a few minutes.
Here it is up on top of the jeep....

Oh nothing is in the plans right now (she already has her spring beach trips planned for this year)

We are both big music fans so Austin is on the radar.....plus some of our musical friends are talking it up too. They usually came down during SXSW.

Don't know if we could combine that with a beach trip anyway or not realistically. (and Gulf Shores is 6hrs away)

Good to know though.
