Hi Charlie, do you mean this one? It is part of;
GROUP 35 - 12 : SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES -- CHAFF SCREEN AND BRUSH GUARD
It was an optional extra. You will have seen some CJ2A's with a guard/mesh covering the grill. The two parts came together.

Hi guys,
first of all many thanks for your answers.
I tried 3 or 4 times to put some photos of this special shield and questions, but I don't know why it was impossible.
Thanks for interpret my poor post CryCryCry.
I want to know also how may attach it to the grill and ask if somebody could tell me
which is the porpose of that shield.
Was used also in the cj-3a and 3bs ??
Thanks in advance for your photos and replies.

Hi Westforkboyd and Old Boy.
Thanks again for he light about this part.
I was looking the Part List and I found 2 diferent groups Confused !!!!!!

a.- Group 35-12 CHAFF SCREEN AND BRUSH GUARD and
b.- Group 35-12A RADIATOR BRUSH GUARD DEFLECTOR KIT

Both group have the same DEFLECTOR (part # 663541) but I don't understand why are differents ?
Maybe because the 35-12 has also the screen and the 35-12A don't ?

Looking the posted photos I noted now where may I put the 2 screws, hex. hd. No12 x 1/2"
Guys, tks again.
Cheers,
Charlie

Looks like you have it figured out. Sean's parts list is a great resource for these types of questions. Was going to refer you to it but not necessary now.

The deflector that goes over the crossmember pictured above was to keep brush and such from coming up between the crossmember and the grill then jamming or poking holes in the radiator from below. In my experience driving through some heavy brush, it works quite well. That in conjuction with the chaff screen protects the radiator when driving through  heavy grass or brushy areas. If that is in your plans this combination should work for you.

You may notice the holes along the back edge of the shield. They are for stapling the felt along the bottom like on the top and sides of the grill, better directing air flow through the radiator.

Hi Guys,
me again with this ""useless CJ-2A part"".
I already painted balck and put it on the Jeep.
With a friend we discussed which was the correct color for this part.
Black or body color ?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Cheers,
Charlie

My eyes aren't too good, is that hole in the crossmember? If so, mine didn't have one there.

Mine didn't either.
That must be the factory optional hole that was installed to speed up the internal rusting process of the crossmember.

i've removed mine , i prefer to know when rust occurs .  and that's the first i think we've discussed this topic .
if your going for points there is a welt that is pinned to the back of that cover where it contacts the radiator .    intended to trap water, leaves, sticks and mud .
  when did this additive evolve.

westforkboyd what year is that frame ?  my '47 has the same radiator mount flanges. old boy and charlie does not .

This is from 184135 April-May 1948. What flanges do you mean? All 2As should have the two radiator mount tabs on the back of the front frame tube.

my bad , first look , thought it was from the other direction , second picture , radiator installed, sitting on the flanges  . sorry.

when did the side mount radiator occur and did that still sit on the cross member flanges , 3a 3b ?

when was this crossmembercover introduced and how many  have them today ?

i'm a bit confused of the actual purpose of that .
