Dimensions taken from an original set of steps. Since the steps & bracketry were somewhat bent & twisted, the dimensions may not be quite exact, but as close as I could get. Anyone comes up w/closer, or significantly different dimensions, let me know please!
3-view CAD drawings as PDF files, 40-75 Kbytes: For us "3-view" visualization impaired, some 3-D object panoramas (3-4 Mbytes each, Quicktime VR formats): And quick jpegs if you're on a slow connection: Some actual steps to see how it all goes together. Remember, these are bent out of shape, so don't weld 'em up this way! WO #'s 666712 & 666713, standard equipment after serial no. 129806 Sean Edited by sean - 15 May 2007 at 7:20pm |

Great job Sean, I'm assuming the hat channel is welded to the underside of the steps to which the frame support bolts? At least that's how I interpret this. Thanks

Yep, hat channel is spot welded to the step tread. I've posted more photos above for clarity.

Sean,
What a nice set of drawings! I'm taking these to a sheet metal shop in Chicago to see what the cost would be to fabricate them.

I can see from the damage that these are an on road accessory, looks like they take the first hit when going through a plow furrow , Hmmmm, couple of hinges and some springs.... stop that now.

Bill:
I am certain on the straight bracket & hat channel dimensions. I don't have a tub/frame set up to test fit on, so before actually fabbing, I would do some mock-up with thin stock or cardboard. Both frame braces were tweaked, so I'm not certain of the bend angle. The tapered bracket I'm least certain of. I would leave the holes undrilled until you can confirm where they should go. I have noted that the vertical brackets are different length, but I don't see why. Sean |

Once installed, these steps severely limit the terrain you can go over. Sean |

I've seen many versions of these side steps but I'm looking for a set like my dad had on his 3b.
they had the same step but they hinged forward and back so if you high centered they would fold up out of the way. I'm not entirely sure but it seems to me they were made by Koenig or maybe one of the early after market people. anyway I remember them being on his Jeep from about 1954 til he let it go in 1994
Anyone seen any of these or has info ...please e-mail me

I think the rear bracket is longer because it's not vertical. Check out these photos from The CJ3B Page..... Edited by russnj - 04 Feb. 2015 at 7:40pm |
