Hey guys,

It may have been asked here before, but what is (if any) the significance of the engine block being painted light blue? I have seen a lot of different Go-Devils & in many different colors. Can anyone key me in on this?

Mine was originally the light blue/teal color.

It means it was repainted at some time. Originally ALL Willys 134L's and 134F were painted Black. Replacement and factory rebuilt engines were painted RED. Does you Jeep have the original engine?

... definately could be Kaiser, most likely Henry J sedan.  Does it have a 3XXXXXX series number stamped above the waterpump, on a tag below the dizzy, or four holes below the dizzy where a tag may have been riveted?

(Mark...factory "rebuild"?)

Interesting! I think it had one rebuild back in the 1970's. My uncle who had owned it since the late 1960's said when he rebuilt the engine, he didn't bother repainting it, so when I tore it down years ago, I just painted it a color very close to the teal/blue that it was when I got it!

This talk of light blue makes me wonder about mine. The jeep is a 48, but the motor is 49 or 50.

FWIW, Sears remanufactured jeep engines were about that color at least in the early 70's.
I bought one after my original (?) engine started rod knocking. It was a teal blue color very similar to yours. I still run the same engine today.

Interesting - thanks.  I've not seen a remanufactured tag on it.  But that could explain it.

For what it's worth, in addition to selling these they also sold Allstate cars which was a rebadged Kaiser-Willys Henry J.....that in itself should explain alot of the blue replacements.

The cars were sold i(only) in '52-'53 so try to save one when you find it in the weeds.

Does the Sears engine have a serial number stamped on the waterpump boss?

Everything on my engine is blue like above, except the head which looks to have been swapped.

Sears also sold houses in kit form. They shipped them to you by rail +/or truck & you assembled them. Or you could hire a Sears contractor to build them for you.

A friend of mine bought & built one. It was a nice, well built house, & looked like any other stick built home.

the engine I have was painted the light blue / teal or what I found as a close match was International Harvester Sky blue, this I think was linked to being rebuilt or modified at factory up in Canada.now it didn't look this clean but places behind or covered with oil/grease the paint was good.
lets go for a rip eh bud

Guys - in the 40’s and 50’s, and even into the 60’s, there was no such thing as a color called “teal”. I think that’s a product of the 70’s, or even the 80’s.
