Hi all. I have an SM420 in my CJ2a adapted to a Dana18 with an overdrive using an Advanced Adaptors adaptor. I am finding that my dana18 transfercase is loosing excess oil and the sm420 seems to be gaining oil.

I just recently had to add a 1/2 quart of gear oil to the transfcase and when I went to check the sm420 It seemed to dump a half quart of excess oil out of the transmission upper fill hole.

Is there some way that the oil is transferring from the dana 18 to the SM420 and not flowing back?

Does / has anyone else had this problem?
What do I need to check or change to correct this?

Thank you
Alan

I'm running a SM420 with the D18 just like you. The only difference is I'm running a Novak adapter. My Novak adapter is a sealed unit. It holds the oil in the transmission and in the transfer case. The only way that they would exchange oil is if the seals on the adapter started leaking internally which is possible. I've looked at the AA adapter and it appears to be built nearly identical to the Novak unit. I'm guessing you need to replace the shaft seals in the adapter.

Curious to see how this turns out, I will check my setup as I have an AA adapter also to see if I have oil migration issues also. I have owned rig this since January and been working on other things

Belleview ol skool winch soon.
