IDK.

Let me guess..... you trailer has no title, no tags, and no evidence of ever having tags?

Brian, are those wheels 5 on 5 1/2? Is the center hole smaller than a normal jeep wheel?

Hi Jpet,
do you remember if your SPEN trailer had 2 holes on the right fender for the screw´s reflector ?
I was looking one of your posted photos, but I can´t see that detail.
Cheers,
Charlie Saguier

Hi Jeff,
tks for your video.
That screw on the top of the left channel, hold a clamp for the lights ?
What do you think about how the chains are attach to the leg ? looks weak for me !
Do you have a drawing with the dimensions of the triangular plate on top of the hitch ?
Cheers,
Charlie

I suppose they are to hold the tail light wires. They were one the trailer when I got it.

I don't know if the chains are original or not. There are many variations of this trailer and I'm not sure if I have ever seen two that are exactly alike.

in this flyer it looks like the chains are attached behind the landing foot..... but again, there are many variations and they are undocumented. If you read this entire thread you will know everything I know about Spen trailers.

At your service.

Hi Jpet,
thanks again for your help.
I guess my SPEN is not a SHADOW type as yours.
Mine has a round axle and 5 lug wheels.
Also the rear tail is different. The landing gear looks similar, but how the chains are attached is different.
Cheers,
Charlie S.

"Shadow" is not the name of a type of trailer made by Spen. It is the name I gave my trailer, like my jeeps name is Gen'l Willys. My trailer is a model "S". To my knowledge, Spen made three styles of civilian trailers

Model "S" which is a trailer with 6 stake pockets and came with or without a canvas cover,
Model "H" which has a longer bed with 8 stake pockets and came with or without hog crate sides.
Model "V" which is an enclosed trailer.

Photobucket

Notice the hitch on the model "H" trailer in the brochure. Looks different than the model "S". Again a lack of consistency.

Jpet,
many thanks for your comment and sorry to think your model was a ¨¨SHADOW¨¨ SmileTongue
My mistake !!Ouch
It´s clear mine is a S model too, because it has 6 stake pocket.
Mine has square axle and 5 lugs, different from yours.
Someone told me that wheels with 6 lugs were done mainly for Chevrolet cars.
Maybe 5 lugs were made for Jeep.
The adv. says ¨¨ THE TIRES ARE INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THE PULLING VEHICLES, THUS ELIMINATING THE SPARE ¨¨ and also says ¨¨ALL TYPES DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED TO YOUR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS¨¨
That confirm definitively what you said and maybe that´s the reason for so many hitches and wheels.
Cheers,
Charlie

It is my understanding that you could get the trailers in either 5 or 6 lug for the very reason you stated. To match the pulling vehicle.

Tks Jeff for your comment.
As you can see the rear part of my trailer is different than yours.

Mine don´t have the diagonal pieces of steel
I guess both are Model S, but different rear part. Why, I don´t know !!!Shocked

My guess is that the chains are too small for factory and that they would not have welded them in place like that. My trailer is the OD green one that Jpet posted above

Hi Bob,
thanks for your message.
I found another SPEN very original here in Argentina and I checked many parts of it to be sure if mine has original or Made in Bubba parts.
As you can see in the photo this trailer has the first link of the chain (unfortunately the photo is very poor) welded to the body in the same way as mine (aprox in 45°).

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I also posted a short video of another Spen Model S as mine, where appears the same chain (links are made with blend wires) welded to the body.
If you have time, please see the video and give me your opinion.
Cheers,
Charlie Saguier
