of all that can go wrong after a fresh rebuild!! Can any one tell me the length and size of the roll pin that holds bendix on starter shaft?? Mine shearing off is a first for me !

I could be wrong but I think it is held on with a bolt that has a domed head and a small step on the threaded end that keys into the center shaft of the starter.

got it going !! Had to remove aremetor to install backing plate screws..sometimes the simplest things require the most thought ..many thanks for advice

Cowboy 64, I am glad you got the Jeep going.

A few questions, if I may:

1. What in the heck is a aremetor?
2. Also where is it in our Willys?
3. Which backing plate are we talking about?
4. Lastly how was it stopping your starter from working?

My guess is the word is  "armature".

yes starter armatur ..phat thumbs on new phone!! Learning to use it!! Finally , totaly disassembled starter...cut new roll pin to fit ..purring again at deer camp..
