My T90A transmission has a 16 tooth reverse idler gear.. Most of them that I find are 15 tooth. Both have the same part number. My trany is from a 1947 cj2a. Can someone shed some light on this situation.

Are you sure it is a T90?  The T84 from the MB/GPW has a 16 tooth reverse idler with spur gears looking like a T90 gear (but as you note the T90 only has 15 teeth).  If the teeth are cut at an angle then it could be a T86 transmission which also has a 16 tooth idler.

It is a T90A1 as stamped on the case. It has the correct input shaft and cluster gesr with the correct number of teeth. It has a 16 tooth reverse idler gear. The part number for a new  gear I think is 640417. Most venders show this to be a 15 tooth gear while some a 16 tooth gear. Be nice to know what is exactly correct for this tranny.

I think you should call Novak as they are probably the most knowledgeable company out there regarding the T90 and the variations.
