Currently running a T-14 with a d-18 with Tera Low, and OD. O.D is toast and Herm says I have to use O.D. behind a Tera Low Transfer Case with a T-14. Does anyone know if this is correct or Tera Low did make the output gear to be used behind a T-14, without an overdrive

I believe Herm is right on this one.
I have never seen nor heard of a 10 spline Tera Flex main shaft output gear. So yes to use a T-14 with Tera Flex 3.15 gear set you must use the overdrive. The overdrive “planetary spider blank” must be the relatively rare 10 spline version. So tell us John; who has inspected the damage to your overdrive unit ? I’m thinking it can certainly be repaired if the proper parts can be sourced. So it mainly matters what specific problems the overdrive has.

If your determined to keep the 3.15 gears you have one option that that does not require big changes to your drivetrain.
Install a Jeep T15. This will require moving the motor mounts or the transfer case by 5/8 of an inch. With the T 15 you can use a normal six spline overdrive or else eliminate the overdrive using the Tera Flex main shaft gear.

I really like the 3.15 gears especially for trail use, but the OD comes in handy with the 5.38 rear end. Looks like I will probably stay with repairing the 10 spline O.D. Herm has had the O.D. since September and claims he is so backlogged he has not got to it as yet. The planetarys in the bowl gear were essentiall welded to the inside of the bowl gear. For now if I was going to change trannys, I would attempt to find a T-18 and farm out the job. I turned eighty last month and just unable to handle a job like this. I am guessing a T-15 swap would be about the same cost as a T-18.

Yeah if you go T18 then you have to move the transfer case or the motor mounts 1-3/4” from where it’s at now.
T14 OAL plus adapters = 11” T15 OAL plus adapters = 11-5/8” T18 OAL plus adapters = 12-3/4” |

Wade is ending me one. Do you have a T-14 output shaft out of the assembly?
Edit: I'm guessing you know where I'm going with this. Edited by jpet - 06 Feb. 2022 at 8:39pm |
