Just saw this posted on craigslist... says its a 47. Obviously is a 3b (and not a 47). Has 3a windshield (not too odd) but the flathead 4 is a puzzle.

I'll bet its titled off the frame number or the engine and the body is a swap.

I see a 3B w/s frame too.  I think I see gussets on the front of the frame, so perhaps the frame is a '47.  It would make for an easy swap to a Hurricane engine, too.  No worries about finding a short carb.  LOL

The factory replacement flathead L134 that I bought came out of a early CJ5. Not sure why after the F134 died in that CJ5 they put in a L134 as the replacement. Maybe they were cheaper at the time?

Probably less expensive enough to make it worthwhile to use the Go-Devil.

I went to look at a cj5 a couple years ago with the same engine swap. I figured maybe the flatheads were easier to find than the “new” engine back then. Of course a lot of people just used what they had back then too. If the neighbor had an old junk jeep with a good engine, that was bound to be cheaper than a rebuild or new engine.

One led to the other?  Two sides of the same coin?
