I know the obvious difference between the round or square shoulders on those old tires, but were they both options from the factory?  Were they on different years?  Why are there two options?

The square edge tires are the earlier style.  The square tires leave more of a directional mark on the ground (if that matters to you).  They also work better in the mud (more bite - less uncontrollable sided slipping).

Some of the later round edge tires CC are made of a soft rubber and will hold up for 30+ year without any checkering of the rubber on a vehicle stored in a garage (if that matters).

If not mistaken I think the NDCC production begins in 1950 as it was used on M38's. ...

Correct. 6:00-16 was an NDT - Non Directional Traction

1950 Introduced the 7:00-16 Which was a Non Directional Cross Country with less traction but better flotation.

(The CJ2A/3A specified 7:00-15 when they wanted flotation and more draw bar pull for agricultural uses)

I don't believe there was a 6:00-16 NDCC for Jeep in the 40's

What about the MB's?  Specifically the 42?  That would be the one I'd be putting these tires on.  Anyone know what size and style off the top of their head?  Might as well get period correct!

MB ran 6.00 x 16" NDT's.
Goodyear was probably the most common and also had Firestone brand which are still available.

1941-1945 Willys MB had only 6:00-16 Goodyear NDT
Goodyear had the Exclusive business till BFG on the M38
The Goodyears are distributed by KelseyTire.com.

The Ford GPW had either Goodyear, Ford, or Firestone 6:00-16 NDT
The Firestone are Coker.com. but available thru other places like Summit Racing

Well...

Neither of those tires pictured is actually the proper tread pitch count for the vintage firestone, so don't buy them for authenticity...

Coker had some old molds around, or got them from the Denman auction.
