Good Morning,
I'm reassembling my block using all the great information from this site.
When I picked up my crank, they told me they had to take .020 off the thrust surface to clean it up and to be sure to check the endplay. Not knowing what I know now, I took the crank home happy to have it back. Everything has gone together great with correct clearances on the mains and rods but find I can do nothing about the .024 endplay I now have.
I see my only option is to bring the crank back and have them take .020 off the front surface the thrust washer rests on.

Motor is a gear drive CJ2A motor

Thanks

Would not you just add in .020 of end play shims to make up for the removed material?

My understanding is you can add endplay with shims but if there are no shims, you can't take it away.

The shims remove excess end play. Think of it as adding a shim to where they machined it, thus making up for the material that they took away.

One would think if they removed .020, they would have done the same on the nose of the crank. I'd call the shop and ask them what they had in mind to correct it.

I had the same problem but only needed about .006 . I used double backed tape and fastened the thrust washer/bearing to a face plate on a metal lathe and took .012 off so I could adjust with shims. If you don't have access to a lathe take it to the machine shop and have them to adjust it.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

WW - I had seen an old post about machining the shim.

Hopefully the machine shop will have a solution.
