Hi guys and girls, I need some ad ice on  D18 TC I'm rebuilding. I was removing the front cap but the high and low range rail will not slide out of the cap.  I think it's hung up on the interlock, and no amount of banging, jiggling or swearing will make it come loose.  Anyone have any useful advice or ideas?

Thanks Q

Did you have it in neutral before taking the shifters off?

Section K-19 (f) and K-20 in the Service Manual for Universal Jeep Vehicles, pages 179 & 180, give very good instructions on how this is done. K-19 (f) says "........ Shift front wheel shift lever to engaged position (shaft forward)." This is after you have removed both of the poppet plugs, springs, and balls.
You do have a Service Manual, don't you?  BW
It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

Metalshaper has a good video on YouTube covering disassembly too.
