I drove it around the backyard a few times after wiring up the voltmeter and the gauge lights. It drives like no other jeep I've owned and runs really good (besides a bad spark plug). I can't wait to get out in a more open area and drive it around. If you don't think power steering is worth the effort think it over. It's probably the best mod on the jeep besides disc brakes. I really like the 4.88's and T98. Not too fast and not too slow. It will pull itself over a 3-4"(?) ledge at idle. I like tall tires but I'm waiting for the right 33's to come along.
Current problems... Radiator leaks, water pump pours when the engine is off, steering gear has a residual leak from the input seal, transfer case leaks from the drain plug, and I'm sure there'll be other leaks in no time. The stock 74 CJ TRE almost bent in half when I put the steering in a bind (flex test on the steering mount). Best I can do for a poser shot in the backyard. Notice the water leak. |

Plugs and water pump/bolts replaced. The old water pump didn't turn easily and had some weeble wobble. Luckily no bolts broke.
Runs like a scalded dog (and on all cylinders now) with the new plugs. I used a set of E3.52's to replace the old mismatched plugs. Here is where the radiator pours. I don't recall if it was like this when I got the jeep or after I threw under the scrap pile. I'll be taking it to a radiator shop and have them go through it. |

Here is the $21 twin stick. It works much better than the junk I removed. Note the jury rigged clutch carrier spring. I need to find a better solution than baling wire sometime.

Steering brace. The clamp is welded to this and bolted to the neck of the steering gear.
Speedometer, dash bar, and tach installed. I think the backlight color changes on the speedometer. What was that about a coin shortage? |

That is the same style as my CJ 5 had. They work but are hell to hold steady in the rocks. The floor hinged versions offer much more control. You can build your own. This is my latest rendition for my 3B: |

I like that, might need to do that in the future. I put another spring on it to increase tension hoping to keep it from being very "sensitive".

3Bs holler for this sort of rabid-pit-bull modification. You're a great fabricator and mechanical engineer. Neat thread, thanks for sharing!

F134 Hurricane. The power steering is very nice. I also like the 4 wheel disc brakes.
