In an effort to experience some Midwest wheeling and extend my Jeep season I’m going to be driving out to The Tuttle Creek Off Road park near Manhattan, Kansas in mid October to meet up with some other Qwaaazy 8 members to include Jpet and Bridog.
Anyone else who would like to meet us there is welcome. This will be a very informal gathering with everyone making their own arrangements and coming and going at your own pleasure. We plan on wheelin’ on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th. I have not been to Tuttle Creek, but I understand that it has a little of everything but is pretty small. We may have to do some things twice to stretch it into two days, but doing fun stuff twice is ok by me.

I plan to be there Saturday for sure and I will let me work load determine whether on not I can attend Friday. I will be gone several days the following week on another Jeep trip. If I keep taking days off for Jeeping my boss will likely figure out where my priorities are if he hasn't yet figured it out. As of today the lake is still 41' high which will effect the park. Hopefully the lake goes down quite a bit before then. Regardless I believe we will find mud.

Well... I guess I am coming out to see what Midwest wheeling is like, and I’m told that means at least some mud. Not that excited about mud, but I am excited about getting out there for a new experience and meeting new people.

I don't particularly like to play in mud either but for some reason it always seems to be muddy every time I am there. We will be in middle of a 3 year drought and I will show up there and they will have had 3" of rain earlier that morning!

what else does a retired guy have to do?! I'm trying to round up the guys and represent KC. I'm thinking JW and some other locals will give this one some real thought.

OK, I'm a tentative go for Tuttle Creek on at least one day. I will know more about my October schedule by the end of the week.
I'm guessing that this is still scheduled for Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 19? Keep me in the loop on this, it sounds fun if the weather will cooperate... |

Lodging is somewhat limited near Manhattan due to a KState football game that weekend. There are flattie folks staying at a hotel in Manhattan, campgrounds near the reservoir, and we are staying at a cabin at Tuttle Creek State Park near the dam of the reservoir. We plan to arrive Thursday night and wheel Friday and Saturday. Friday night we are planning on grilling some burgers at our cabin and welcome all of you to come by, eat, and hangout. Brian, Molly, Dylan, Fuzz, and Dale

Hey guys! Ima gonna make this trip with Paul! It will be a fun time with great company! That being said, I've been in contact with MFeiden who happens to be a bit of a Flint Hills expert. He has spent many years traveling and photographing the area, and is 90% (his number) sure he'll be able to tag along. With that in mind, I've talked with him about doing a tour of the Flint Hills. With his knowledge of the area, and his personal connections, we may be able to tread some ground that few have been able to do. We would leave from TC and return to TC, and Mark estimates it to be about a 4-5 hour tour. If all you've ever heard people say about Kansas is that it is so flat...the Flint Hills will change your opinion and touch your heart. Google it and take a look! It has been a fantasy of mine since I was a kid to be able to drive up on some of the hills and plateau's in my jeep. This will be my best opportunity so far.
And speaking of that, Mark has mentioned that he has almost a complete route planned out for driving the Flint Hills from the Oklahoma border to Nebraska, possibly as soon as next spring. That will be a trip I won't want to miss! So anyway, to Jeff, Stan, the Evans clan and others, I'm not trying to butt into your adventures. But with TC being only so big, and the opportunity to drive the FH's so possible, I couldn't resist! So, for those that have the interest, that will be on my agenda Saturday around noontime. Maybe there'll be so much to do at Tuttle Creek that no one wants to leave, and that's just fine too! Either way, I'm looking forward to the time with some great friends, and maybe meeting so new ones. By the way, NOSBob has company that weekend, otherwise, he'd be with us too! We won't be there Thursday night, but should be fairly early Friday morning. See ya in a couple of Fridays! |

Arick,
Flint Hill's sound fun, but I don't think I have the extra travel time, especially if it is a Saturday afternoon activity. I have a room booked in York, Nebraska for Saturday night. That is already 3 hours from Tuttle and I'm trying to avoid too much driving at night (bit of a leftover phobia since my accident a couple of years back.) No reason you shouldn't go off and see some new country though, especially if you have a local expert that is willing to help out I'm excited to see you and jeep with you and Paul again. Also to meet some more Midwestern flat fender folks. |

I understand, I was wondering how the distance was going to work with you. The opportunity, for me... It's just too tempting to pass up. I certainly wasn't trying to pull anyone away from the original intent, but once. Mark came on board I had to throw it out there! It'll be good to see you!
