Good Evening Bill:

I did find another website the Willys Overland Knight Registry.  Their web master confirmed that the engines were -- 27-28 Willys Whippet Model 96.

Somewhere there is someone trying to restore a Whippet that might be very glad those engines weren't sold for scrap.
