A couple things I enjoyed in the photo was how nice the chrome is, the early chaff screen and hood tie down strap.... I see the later lollipop hinges and license plate mounting braketSmile

Saw these posted in a story about the evolution of the Jeep. Didn't see them here on the site:

That last shot is very interesting.  Can you share the source for these?

Thanks,

What kind of rear wheel is that in the last shot? Check out the spelling of "universal" in the first picture? (Need a some separation between the I) LOL

Looks like a small-diameter steel tractor wheel on the rear. And yeah, 'Universal' is spelled correctly but it's a little tight in that space.

Barry,
It was just a story that popped up when I was reading some news articles. I tried to locate it again but could not.

Now I may be wrong on this but, the rear wheel/tire combination is most likely stock with a wrap over of a tractor tire carcass that has spikes bolted into it.

Back in that time frame some farmers would make up a set of these tire wraps & install them on the stock tire to get better traction. They installed similar to how tire chains are installed. Note the "tightening" chains on it.

My grandpa had several sets of these. He liked them better than the chains that came with the Farmall. I never had a need for them myself.

Heck, they are probably still out in the barn at the old place. I will try to remember to ask my cousin if they are still there & if she could get some pictures of them for me. If she can't maybe one of her kids or one of her brothers could do that for me. It will not happen until after harvest season is over, so do not hold your breath waiting for the pictures.

Good information.  No hurry, but would like to see some pictures.

Kinda looks like it bolts on outboard of the original wheel and tire in this photo...

I did not notice before,   but looks like the spike are retractable.  (which makes sense).

I saw this eBay ad for a period slide. It is interesting to find a period photo in color. It looks to be Luzon Red. A nice reference photo.
