Sorry guys, just got back from the Northern Colorado Mountain Run and i am exhausted from the heat every day and developed some mechanical issues with Awol that is going to keep us from attending the Rubicon with you. Guess Awol and I are getting to old. Hopefully we will see each other on the trail later. Have fun, as i know you will, i did when my son and i did the Rubicon.   Ray

I am sorry to hear that you will not be joining us Ray. I was looking forward to wheelin with you and your son. Get Awol fixed up, rest up yourself and hopefully I will see you in a couple months at the Fall Colors Tour.

We started getting our list together today of stuff we will be bringing on the trail with us. Not nearly done yet but we will have some extra cooler space. As far as meals go we are planning on eating preprepared breakfast and lunch items and cooking dinner over the campfire or charcoal. It looks like any firewood would have to be acquired in CA.  I got a fire permit last week.  It sounds like everybody is taking extra fuel. How far is it from the truck/trailer parking to Tahoe on the other end?  Assuming we make it to Tahoe it might be nice to fuel up, check the area out, etc. before heading back.

Sorry to hear that you are not coming Ray, but I certainly understand. Rest up and we will see you at Mike's in September.

Here's some of the parts and tools I'm bringing.  Not all of this will be with me on the trail but, it will be available should we need to run back to the trailhead.

I will have very limited cooler space (its a very small cooler), but what I have I will share.  Im planning on only using the cooler for drinks.  Most of my food will be canned, dehydrated, etc. that will not need to be cooled.  I'll have the 5 gallons of water plus my water filter system, so we shouldn't have to all carry 5 gallons of water.  That might free up some space for someone.

I'll post some of my camping gear tomorrow if I have time.  I'm loading up tomorrow because we are leaving early Tuesday morning.  So if you need something you better let me know quick.

Somebody in this group must have been in Scouting!!  Talk about prepared!  I've been rounding stuff up, but nothing like you guys...sheesh!  I'll start thinking seriously about it Thursday night!
I should have some cooler room.   Rick, how fast is your filter system?       If there is stuff that needs to be brought, but no room, let me know...we should be able to stow some stuff as I'm not that heavy in parts or tools...I'm thinking we'll split it up in a good fashion before we hit the trail for the day.
Looking forward to meeting up with everyone and getting this adventure started!!

Thought about that but about the only thing I could hang out would be my ruck sacks.  These don't have frames so I would have to fabricate some straps.  Haven't figured out how to hang ammo cans off the side  Maybe up front or back.  Things mounted on the side of BAM BAM have a habit of not staying there for long.

Rick,

The entire midwest group, (Bridog, ricco, PTS211, jpet, sonoblast77)  is meeting up in Kearney, NE on Friday.  We will convoy together and meet smfulle at Elko NV on Saturday.  That gets us all together by 2ish on Sunday.

Still got an empty seat roc .... I'll let you do all the obstacles ...  Last call.

Jeff, I'm sure you have a meeting place in Kearney figured out, but if not, there is a great classic car museum next door (east) of Cabelas on Hwy 30 in Kearney.  Big parking lot and the museum is awesome if folks are arriving early and need to kill some time.  Enjoyable even if you only have an hour or so to kill.  And it's air conditioned!  $8 entry fee.

I was thinking that if one of you would call me when you get to EvanSton Wyoming, it's right on the Utah/Wyoming border, I would hit the road and meet you at the Flying J truck stop in Toole, Utah. The truck stop is right at the south tip of the Great Salt Lake and is about an hour from my house. The truck stop is about an hour and a half from Evanston so that would be just about perfect for me to get there few minutes before you. We all can go potty, recharge our Dr. Peppers and head out over the Salt Flats together.

What say you?

(Look for the Flying J where Utah rt 36 splits off of I80 near Toole)

Oh, I sort of didn't think about it being BAM BAM... Big smile  What about a windshield cover, where GIs used to pack a lot of stuff?  Put your soft things there so the glass is safe?
