It's DECEMBER
It's Pearl Harbor Day. Did you put your flag out? My speedometer needle started bouncing around again. Yesterday, I pulled it out and went to drill out the plug so that I can get some oil in there. I noticed that the plug was already drilled and that the bezel appeared to have been opened before. I decided to pull it apart. I found an easter egg. Almost 46 years ago, someone was in there. I sent an email to the owner who had her from '68-'92 to see if he remembers. I may do a bit of restoration since it is out and apart. The face is in perfect shape but I would like to repaint the needle. What is the best way to remove it and what paint do you guys suggest? May replace the scratched glass too. Micah

Micah the person that serviced the speedo signed it just like an old school watch repair man would. I have a 1917 Elgin 17 jewel GM Wheeler movement that inside the case back has a 1/2 dozen service dates and signatures. It was a very well taken care of watch.

Not sure on CJ2A forum but under oldwillys forum search gauge repair. Lots of good info in general about restoring the needles etc. I am getting ready to redo mine this winter. Good luck

I have a speedo with similar "signed" details. Interesting that the signer on both speedos writes a number, a signature and the date...

The number may be a repair order number. I used to leave notes on the backs of instrument clusters and such, as on the back of the speedo in a 1969 Impala: “I was here, now you are. I don’t envy you, you poor bastard” BW

I got my CB setup. and happily the SWR is very happy. Though I will have to recheck it once I can get out of the shop. Weather channels work well and I have heard a little far away chatter on the CB

found cap covers for the cylinder locks for the tool box. will keep the dirt out.
tried to open one of the boxes after a mud flood into the Jeep and it was a no go. hopefully this will solve that problem. |

Well, end of the month and I finally got around to putting her back together. I ended up just cleaning lubricating and some wax on the face. I thought about replacing the number counter since the white paint on the tenths wheel is flaking but decided to keep the character. I did replace the scratched glass. The previous owner did not recall having it serviced. Halfway through crimping the bezel, I remembered that I had forgotten to leave my mark, too late. Oh, well. Micah

Ha, yeah, obviously an old photo that I uploaded a while back. The plate is a little more bent up now.
Taillight looks the same though. Micah

Well, sort of a "for the jeep" rather than "to"... but I got all the parts in that I need to rebuild the transmission and transfer case. Seals, new main and low gears, bearings, gaskets, etc. Now I need to figure out how to drop the transmission and transfer case from below.
