This is FYI only, it is simply raw data taken from the only published documents we have on-hand. It may or may not be accurate. Make what you will of it.

There's no way to precisely date when a vehicle rolled off the assembly line, but you can get close (IF you believe the data).

These numbers and dates were culled from Willys Service Bulletins.  Find 2 numbers your vehicle falls between. Interpolating from those should get you within a few of days of reality.

yes!!!!!

i believe that to be the case....if not 500 more units than the 2315

#12812 was sold new in early November of 45, the title reflects it as a 1945 2A...... November 1st was the "new year model change" date in 1945.....in 1947 it moved back to September....

Great information, Sean, and thank you for posting it! Clap

Rather than clutter up this thread with potentially speculative information, I have added a post here http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/yearly-production-serial-numbers_topic9840_post138152.html#138152 in the Yearly Production Serial Numbers thread to try and provoke discussion and consensus on adding some qualifying information to the History page data supplied by Harold West.

The January/February serial number spread puts production at about 175 per day if they ran 7 days a week.  This would put my 46 at about 1/31/46.

This is troublesome.

According to the Service Bulletins, #12315 was still on the assembly line Jan. 8, 1946.

If they're not believable, this post should be deleted.

Hello,

When where my cj2a jeeps made?
It is serial number 134085 and serial number 151445?

The jeep with serial nr 151445, was it at the end of 1947 or at the begining of 48?
I don't now for sure...

Thank you

Sean, Do more bulletins exist after 48-60 and you just don't have those to include? Or can we assume that is the last one and no updates were made to the 2A for the remainder of its production in anticipation of switching over to 3A production?

#134085 falls between 116421 on 5/12/47 & 139011 on 9/17/47.
  • 139011 - 116421 = 22590 vehicles
  • 9/17/47 - 5/12/47 = 128 days
  • 22590 / 128 = 176.5 vehicles per day
Your #134085
  • 134085 - 116421 = 17664 vehicles after 5/12/47
  • 17664 * 176.5 = 100 days after 5/12/47
  • 5/12/47 + 100 days = 8/20/47
So #134085 was build on or about 8/20/47, give or take a few days.

The same math will produce a date for # 151445.

Sure there are others, but only these have specific s/n + date correlations.

I'm a little confused.

My VIN is CJ2A587XX.

I read the table and see different number ranges with different dates.  Any help interpreting this would be appreciated.

The "e"  stands for the engine serial number.  Put your number between the serials listed that don't include the "e".

Using this chart, your Willys was made between August and October, 1946.
