I bought one and it was smaller than the one I took out of it. The filter was labeled “civilian” size but it’s clearly too small and the gasket isn’t big enough. The filter fits on the tube just fine but is obviously small. Which one is needed?

Sounds like you might need a Wix 51010, could be a Wix 51006, that's the biggest size. here are the sizes for the three most common. Wix makes filters for Napa, just leave off the 5 to cross reference.
MFG Number OD ID Height WIX 51006 4.094 in 0.553 5.007 in WIX 51010 3.718 in 0.553 in 4.375 in WIX 51080 3.367 in 0.703 in 4.218 in Edited by 47 deuce alpha - 05 Feb. 2023 at 5:30pm |

If you have a parts book, look at page 27, Group 10-16A. From the picture, your canister looks like it takes filter 647345. If you go to the filter posting, you can see the different canisters used and their corresponding filter elements. Unfortunately, the reference photos are no longer available, so it makes it a bit difficult to know for sure that your assembly is the same as the '49 parts book (#3), which references the same filter element as the parts book. I suggest removing your assembly and bringing it to the parts store to confirm that the filters referenced are the same.
Micah After going to the post, I realized that the photos to come up if your click on the icon. My computer doesn't show them otherwise.

Thanks for all that. I remembered seeing that old post before but couldn’t find it. I was sent the wix 51010. Looks like I need the 51006.
