hello all,
I am trying to get opinions on which wiring harness mfr has the most correct wire gauges as I have read some may be undersized.
Thanks,

Does walcks actually make there own? I think vintage wiring of Maine is pretty good and supplies some of the usual parts suppliers.

I got mine from Walcks....I am not the brightest bulb in the box so it took me at least a week to figure it out...the directions are kinda vague(from my perspective) but I called Carl and Dan up both at least once and they talked me thru it..

Take you time...if I can do it you can do...

I would have to use all of them to make a good judgement but I used Wakcks and it was a nice correct harness and easy to use.  They also sell extra wire and fittings if you want to match it for a add on accessories and are fast shipping it to you.

I too used Walcks harness and like MikeC mentioned at the time I had to turn the instructions upside down and sideways a few times to get the picture, but that's on me.  Also, like someone recently mentioned on another subject, using Walcks is like "keeping it in the family."  Have fun.

My 02.  Always buy a six volt with turn signals even if you have twelve volt because the wire size is bigger and turn signals are a good option in todays world.

Walck's makes their own (or at least did). When I ordered mine, I wanted some custom changes to the harness, I called Carl, he had me talk to the guy who makes them so what I wanted wouldn't be lost in the process and I got it just as fast as any normal part order. He charged me and extra $10.00 and most of that was for the extra wire and connectors (for trailer wiring). Wink

I bought one of these. He made it according to my accessories layout, used the head lamp plugs I sent from my '47, and included extra wire for unforeseen requirements. This is a really nicely made harness with original color fabric over plastic insulated wire. All parts are labeled and a good wiring diagram is included.

Cost was about 1/3 less than other choices. I am very happy with it.

Hello all,
Thanks for the many replies.  I will be wiring 6V which is why I am hunting the correct heavier gauge main power wires.  With 12V, I would be less worried about the gauge if it a little lighter than original, due to our good friend Ohm's Law.
If I convert to 12 later then no worries either.

This site is great...soooo much reference info.  I know Willys Overland never expected this...
Hats off to them and to everyone who is help keeping these alive and kickin'.

Thanks,

I believe (last I checked) Walck's makes their own and can customize if needed for things like heaters/turn signals.

Vintage Wiring of Maine makes a good harness and like Walck would customize.

The one I have came from MVSpares and I've been happy with it.

I would say all of those venders do a good job and provide a good product. You may want to check out the three of them and see which fits best with your time and budget.
